Please describe in an essay of 500 words or less, something about why you chose this field of study, your efforts to help finance your own education, participation in extracurricular activity pursuits* and your involvement in volunteering in your local or wider community. * Activities can range from a team sport to an individual pursuit to something in the outdoors or the arts. The idea of this requirement is to demonstrate that you have at least some balance in your life and a certain level of activity although it does not have to be at a high or intense level. 2. A cover letter (no more than one page) explaining why you are applying for this scholarship, what difference it could make in your academic career and what your goals and aspirations after graduation from post secondary studies are. Please sign and date this letter. 3. Two letters of recommendation from individuals outside of your family. Each letter should be no more than one page. Letters of Reference are important to your application. References should be from someone who actually knows something about you and can give some indication of your character or ability. It is worthwhile to have an academic reference but also another one from someone like an employer, coach or pastor. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Please submit your application by regular mail (do NOT use Express Mail, Registered Mail or a courier) to: Saint John’s Legacy Foundation P.O. Box 40059 Baker Centre Edmonton AB T5J 1G0 OR Email: pjackson@sjsa.ab.ca Applicants must have successfully completed at least one year of post secondary studies or be in the second semester of their first year to be eligible to apply for a scholarship. Applicants may be in full time or half time undergraduate studies at a university, college or technical school. It is preferred that students are from western Canada. You are encouraged to have at least your application at our office by March that includes first semester academic results from the fall semester. Earlier applicants may have an advantage over those who wait until the final deadline of May 19th. A photocopy or scan of your transcript from the 2014 / 2015 academic year will be accepted by email or mail for this application. If you are granted a scholarship, you will be required to send an original OFFICIAL transcript by mail to the Foundation office no later than August 1st. A copy of your official acceptance or proof of payment for the coming year of study must be in the Foundation office no later than August 15th. Please ensure that your name is clearly visible on all documents submitted to us and that your application has been properly filled out. Please sign your name where indicated on the application form and covering letter. Unfortunately, application materials cannot be returned to the applicant. To minimize costs and maximize the scholarship, only those applicants that are successful will be notified.
