Flying Pig Marathon Group Volunteer Opportunities May 2015 Pre-Race Preparation Volunteer Opportunities: (Thursday, April 30) Expo Set-up / Poster Prep Assist Marathon personnel in the set-up of registration and packet pickup area. Assist in organization of premium items, t-shirt and merchandise. Assemble poster boxes, roll and insert posters into boxes. Location: Duke Energy Convention Center, Cincinnati. Thursday 11am-6pm (volunteers assigned to a 3 hour shift) Friday Evening Volunteer Opportunities: (Friday, May 1) Little Kings Mile Race and Party Assist with packet pick-up, set up of finish line area Volunteer in the finish line area handing out medals, water and other items Volunteer at refreshment and food booths, assist green team with clean up and recyling. Location: Smale Riverfront Park 6pm – 12am (volunteers assigned to a 3 hour shift) Set up for Saturday events Help set up assembly line and stuff goodie bags for kids events Assist Finish Line Supervisor with finish line set-up duties Location: finish line area between US Bank arena and Great American Ballpark 5pm – 9pm Friday / Saturday Expo Volunteer Opportunities: (Friday, May 1 & Saturday, May 2) Expo - Info Pigs Assist at the Information Booth and various locations within the Expo. FAQ’s provided. Ideal for past Flying Pig Marathon participants and volunteers very familiar with the city. Friday or Saturday (morning, afternoon or evening shift) Expo - T-shirt & Premium Pick-up / Expo Vendor support Assist with re-stocking and handing out participant t-shirts and premium items. Assist event sponsors / vendors with sample handouts. Requires long periods of standing Location: Duke Energy Convention Center, Cincinnati. Friday or Saturday (morning, afternoon or evening shift) Expo - Tear-down Assist Marathon personnel and vendors in breaking down and packing expo displays and merchandise. Location: Duke Energy Convention Center, Cincinnati. Saturday only: the close of the Expo (2-2.5 hours) Expo - Vintage Apparel Sales Operate merchandise booth at expo selling previous years’ tee shirts. Location: Duke Energy Convention Center, Cincinnati. Friday or Saturday (morning, afternoon or evening shift) Saturday Events - Volunteer Opportunities: (Saturday, May 2nd) Piglet Assist with Piglet event registration and pre-registered packet pick-up Assist with staging, handing out medals and goodie bags for the Piglet children's races 10:30am – 2pm Kids’ 26th Mile Event Assist Marathon staff with set up, start line and staging area of the Kids Mile event. **Note: Previous year’s groups have first opportunity to reclaim their assignments by the predetermined deadline. Flying Pig Marathon Group Volunteer Opportunities May 2015 Could be asked to assist with packet pickup for Saturday events 10am - 1pm Saturday events - Race Registration & Packet pick-up Provide volunteers for registration and packet pick-up for Saturday events. 6am – 10am Finish Line Staff the finish line for 10K, 5K, Kids Mile, Pig Abilities and/or Flying Fur. Duties include distribution of medals, refreshments, mylar blankets. 7am – 3pm (volunteers assigned to a 4-4.5 hour shift) Course Monitors Ensure participant safety and direction for 5K and 10K events Group will be split into smaller subsets to cover spots along the course Various intersections along the 5K and 10K course 7am – 11am Flying Fur Set up and operate the human & dog water stop(s) along the course Provide volunteers in the start line area to assist with staging and additional dog needs Provide volunteers to assist with Flying Fur participant packet pickup and registration 11:30am - 2:30pm Green Team / Clean-up / Recycle Team Clear and sort trash and recyclables in finish area and assist in tear down of finish area. Location: Pete Rose Way and Mehring Way area. 7am – 3pm (volunteers assigned to 4.5 hour shift; organization has the option to register and split volunteer coverage for the entire day for full donation amount **Group leader coverage required onsite for entire shift time) Saturday or Sunday Family Fun Fest Vendor Support Assist vendors with sample handouts at the post-race event Assist with beer distribution and re-stocking Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age Location: Yeatman's Cove 9am - 3pm (volunteers assigned to 3 hour shift) **Note: Previous year’s groups have first opportunity to reclaim their assignments by the predetermined deadline. Flying Pig Marathon Group Volunteer Opportunities May 2015 Fluid Station Supply Distribution & Return Serve as porters for fluid station captains picking up and returning supplies. Location: City Dash warehouse. Saturday 10am and Sunday 9am Pasta Party Serve as hosts for the pre-race carbo-loading buffet. Location: TBA, Downtown Cincinnati. Saturday night 4pm-8pm Sunday Marathon Race Day - Volunteer Opportunities: (Sunday, May 3rd) Baggage Buses - Drop off at Start Line Assist runners in depositing gear bags onto buses at start line. Travel with buses to the finish line and assist handing out bags to finishers Location: start near Paul Brown Stadium. 4:45am - 9:30am Relay Exchange Help runners in exchange zones, hand out water, set-up & tear down. Location: Various locations on course. 5:30am Relay Bus Loading Direct relay runners onto appropriate buses to relay exchange zones, provide information, assist runners who miss connections. Location: Eggleston Ave. 5:15am Info Pig - Relay Bus Drop Off / Hotel Shuttle pick up Direct relay runners to the finish line after bus drop off, provide information. Help answer questions and direct participants to the Hotel Shuttles (relay bus becomes the hotel shuttle once empty) **Note: Previous year’s groups have first opportunity to reclaim their assignments by the predetermined deadline. Flying Pig Marathon Group Volunteer Opportunities May 2015 Course Monitor Man various intersections on marathon route to keep runners on course, ensure runner safety, & provide encouragement to runners. Must have adult supervision with each minor aged volunteer. Group will be split into subgroups of 2-4 volunteers each. Location: varies along course route Time varies - 6am start time or later Course "Monitainers" Same as course monitor except group will remain together to ensure runner safety & provide entertainment. Location: Eastern Ave/Riverside Drive. 7am-1pm Runner Feed Zones Prepare and distribute fruit or other edibles to runners on course and provide entertainment. Location: Varies along the course Time varies - 6am start or later Energy Gel Station Distribute energy gel to runners near mile 17 and mile 22. Set up and clean area. 6:30am Hog Wash Station Distribute wet/dry towels to runners and provide entertainment. Location: GCWW Pump Station, Eastern Ave 7am Greased Pig Station Distribute anti-chafe products and sunscreen to runners on course while providing entertainment. Location: TBD near Mile 18 Green Team / Clean-up / Recycle Team Clear and sort trash and recyclables in finish area and assist in tear down of finish area. Location: 4 various locations on the course Finish Area Assist in maintaining runner flow thru finish chutes, hand out medals, mylar blankets, water, food. Volunteers 16 years and older. Location: Yeatmans Cove. 6:00am - 2pm (volunteers assigned to a 4.5 hour early or late shift) Baggage Retrieval Buses at Finish Line Assist runners in claiming gear baggage that was deposited at the starting line. Location: Yeatmans Cove 9:30am Finish Area Security Help secure various points of the recovery area to ensure a “Participants Only” zone Location: Finish Line at Pete Rose Way 7am - 2pm Info Pigs - Start Line Provide general information regarding race, course, & city to runners, spectators, other volunteers. Will be provided with a prepared list of FAQ’s and guidance from Key Info Pigs Locations: Start Line near Paul Brown stadium 4:45am Info Pigs - Finish Line Provide general information regarding race, course, & city to runners, spectators, other volunteers. Location: Pete Rose Way and Mehring Way area. 7:00am-2pm Start Line - Corral and security Direct participants into proper starting coral, provide directions and assistance near the start line area Assist with start line clean up and clothing pick-up Location: near Paul Brown Stadium. 4:45am Fluid Stations – *if available* Provide water and Gatorade to runners, additional commitments are also required of these volunteers (attending organizational meeting, supply pickup, etc) Locations: various along the course route Time - varies depending on location **Note: Previous year’s groups have first opportunity to reclaim their assignments by the predetermined deadline.
