You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown 1 SYNOPSIS A program note says that the time of the action is “an average day in the life of Charlie Brown.” It really is just that; a day made up of little moments of Charlie Brown’s life from Valentine’s Day, the baseball season, and wild optimism to utter despair. They are all mixed in with the lives of his friends (both human and non-human) and strung together on the string of a single day; from bright uncertain morning to hopeful starlit evening. Brandon Haughey and Evan Howell You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown 3 CAST BIOGR APHIES Redding Tews (Sally Brown) ‘16 Redding is extremely childish, so playing the role of Sally Brown has been relatively easy. You may best remember Redding from WFBHS’s performance of Footloose as the role of Rusty, where she rocked a pair of sunglasses to prevent her concussed head from exploding. Other roles include Elaine Harper in Arsenic and Old Lace and a dancing cupcake in Pinkalicious: The Musical. A freaking cupcake. When not performing, Redding enjoys...oh wait, all she does is theatre. Nevermind. She would like to thank the original Miranda Sings Livy Commer and the instafamous Sian Whitney for always being there for her during long rehearsals and her adopted brother Charlie. Enjoy the show! Jacob Selby (Stage Manager) ‘16 is excited for his first job as Stage Manager at Whitefish Bay HS. He is hard working and one of the more senior members of the crew. His previous job/s was light designer/light board operator for the past 6 or more shows, which included last year’s one act, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare: Abridged,” Arsenic and Old Lace,” and “Hello Dolly.” For his first “ruling” for the under classmen he would like to remind them that no matter what they think, he still rules them with an iron fist and a welcoming hug. Alex Quade (Charlie Brown) ‘17 is extremely excited to be back on the WFB high school stage! He just appeared as Willard in Footloose, and last year he appeared in Hello Dolly and The Nerd (Warnock Waldgrave). Alex has also performed in First Stage shows such as Shrek, the Musical (Pig), and The Three Little Pigs (Bao). Enjoy the show! Van Rao (Schroeder) ‘17 is really pumped to play the role of Schroeder. He loves being in musicals, his most recent being Footloose. He hopes to continue his musical career throughout High School. He would like to thank his parents for all their support. Other than theater Van enjoys playing piano and soccer. Maya Goldbaum (Sally Brown Understudy) ‘17 is ecstatic to be in this amazing performance of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. You may have seen her in Hello, Dolly! last year. She was also in multiple shows in middle school and earlier. I would like to thank Ms. Lentz and Julia Buskirk for putting so much time and effort into this show! Maya also enjoys playing guitar and doing gymnastics. Evan Schallack (Snoopy Understudy) ‘18 is thoroughly excited to be Snoopy and Shermy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. He has been in three shows in the past, including Get Smart, Music Man Junior and Little Mermaid Junior. He would like to thank his parents for being so supportive of him leading up to the show, and would also like to thank his cast for being so awesome. Patrick Collins (Charlie Brown Understudy) ‘16 is excited to be involved WFBHS’ production of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. You may have seen him as Chuck Cranston in Footloose or as Stanley in Hello Dolly! He would like to thank the director and cast for a wonderful experience. He hopes you enjoy the show! Beatrice Rasmussen (Lucy Van Pelt Understudy) ‘18 This is Beatrice’s first High School production, and she could not be more excited! Bea was in 3 Middle School Livy Commer (Lucy Van Pelt) ‘15 is very shows and has always loved to act. The excited to be in a musical for the first time. character of Lucy Van Pelt comes naturally She feels so lucky to be involved in a show to Beatrice because of her previous roles as with so many great people. She also wants “Amaryllis” from The Music Man and “Eloise” to thank Ms. Lentz for all her hard work, from Eloise at the Plaza. In her free time she and Redding and Sian for keeping her sane. enjoys sailing, swimming and spending as 4 Whitefish Bay High School CAST BIOGR APHIES c o n t. much time on the water as possible. She would like to thank her family for their support and all of the upperclassmen in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown for being such great role models. You may remember him as the assistant director for Footloose as well as acting in Arsenic and Old Lace as Officer O’Hara or as Professor Dante in Get Smart. Brandon plans to continue being active with high school theater and will be in many more plays in the future. Siân Whitney (Snoopy) ‘16 is overly exuberant to play the role of Snoopy in Whitefish Bay High School’s rendition of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Siân enjoys long walks on the beach with her dog and playing frisbee with her favorite pet, who is the dog. Her dog’s name is Snoopy, in addition to her character’s name. Siân also enjoys singing “Who Let the Dogs Out” by Baha Men, but refuses to go to the dog park because the angels have prohibited the people from entering. She is super excited and appreciates the support of Redding Hale Tews, Livy Katheryn Commer, Van Nalin Rao, Stefan Karl Schallack, Alex David Quade, Patrick Michael Collins, Ms. Colleen Lentz, and most importantly her parents. Have a day and enjoy the thing. Stefan Schallack (Linus) ‘15 15000 years ago, in a rainforest, a mythical creature called a unigon created Stefan Schallack out of four laughs, two tears, no frowns, a ripe watermelon, and a sturdy tree trunk; it fed Stefan love and the water from the stream in avatar from a bottle until he was old enough to do theatre for Whitefish Bay High School. Since then he has been in an array of productions including Footloose (where he transmogrified into Kevin Bacon), Hello Dolly! and Sound of Music. He would like to thank his family and friends, including Willard Hewitt, back home in the rainforest for their love and support. Julia Buskirk (Assistant Director) ‘18 has enjoyed this wonderful opportunity as Assistant Director for You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown! She›s been part of numerous productions in the past, both school and professional, but this is her first time in a position such as this. She›d love to thank everyone for welcoming her wholeheartedly. The cast was such a joy to work with; constantly teaching, wowing, (and testing!) her throughout the process. Every day brought something new and amazing, and hopefully everyone in this production is aware of how wonderful they are. All that’s left to say is enjoy the show! You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown 5 F R O M T H E D I R E C TO R In 1984 Charles M. Schulz, the creator of Charlie Brown and the “Peanuts” comic strip wrote, “I think anybody who is writing finds he puts a little bit of himself in all of the characters, at least in this kind of a strip...You have to put yourself, all of your thoughts, all of your observations and everything you know into the strip.” Indeed we can all find a little bit of ourselves in Schulz’s characters. Why else, after over 65 years is Charlie Brown still so popular? Whether we grew up reading the comic strip, have watched the holiday tv specials, have bought Charlie Brown or Snoopy memorabilia, or are even seeing Charlie Brown for the first time today, there is a timeless quality to the comic that stems from its ability to reach us in some way. Perhaps we have felt like Charlie Brown, the hopeless yet eternal optimist, the deep-thinking Linus, or even “crabby” Lucy. Their experiences are something we have felt at some point in our lives. I would like to take a moment to thank all of those who have made this year great, and send a special wish to the seniors who are on their ways to very bright futures. Also, thank you, the audience, for supporting theatre at Whitefish Bay High School. I hope you enjoy as we step into a day in the life of Charlie Brown. Sincerely, Ms. Colleen Lentz You’re a great Lucy - Sally!!!! Love, Mom, Dad, & Ben! TO OUR “BEETHOVEN,” YOU MAKE US PROUD!
