What an amazing week, Early Years have had an amazing time with our new chicks and
watching them hatch. Year 1 have been busy nurturing their garden project and
watching their beans grow. Our new playground markings have been a real success,
children (and staff) have been eager to try them out!
Mrs L Bridgwood
Nursery
Nursery and Reception have had a
parent workshop
very exciting delivery this week!
Each class have taken delivery of
Thank you to all
the parents who
attended the ‘mark
making’ parent workshop.
We hope you enjoyed
coming into school to see
some of what your
children do during the
an incubator with living eggs inside! So far
this week we have 8 new born baby chicks!
The children have watched in awe as the
chicks break their shell and make their
way into the world. The chicks are kept in
the first incubator for the first 24 hours
then placed in pairs into the larger

school day.
The children really enjoyed an assembly we held titled
’Explorers and adventurers’. Mr Griffiths visited our
school and spoke to the children about his adventures
and the adventures that they could make in their life.
Ethan , from Year 4 answered a question that in all the
schools Mr Griffiths at visited (55 at least!) no other
child had answered so well done Ethan! The afternoon
was very inspiring and the children now believe that
anything is possible!
We hope you have seen our
new playground markings.
They were completed over
Easter ready for the
children’s return to school
last week. The children
were very excited and
pleased with the games
they can now play. Many
thanks to the PTFA who
have very generously
donated half towards the
markings.
Christmas Card Competition
Spare Wool and Kinder Egg capsules!
Our friends at Entrust catering have organised a
Christmas card competition for the schools within Staffs County
Council. The winner from each school will win a football and be placed
into the final. The overall winner will win a whole football strip for their
school!
The theme for the cards is ‘Christmas on a farm’ the design can be
drawn on A4 paper and must have the child’s name, year group and age
on the back. The closing date is 21st May 2015 when we will pick our
winner to be put through to the final. Good Luck!
Ms Turner would be very grateful for
any spare bits of wool that you may
have to help make dreamcatchers and
the PTFA are collecting the empty
capsules from inside a Kinder egg in
preparation for the Summer Fayre.
Please send into school with your child.
Many thanks.
Also this week we have been…..
Nursery, it has been a very EGGciting week in Nursery as our chicks have arrived and we currently have 3 chicks! All of
the children have been doing lots of talking about the chicks and also enjoying showing all of our parents during our lovely
mark making morning.
Reception have had an incredible week with the eggs arriving. Each day we have had new chicks and on Thursday watched
2 chicks being born. Children have enjoyed writing about chicks and making them in creative area.
Year 1 read the story ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle on Monday. This inspired them to plant some seeds. We are currently
growing runner beans and salad leaves. The children are taking it in turns to water the plants and make observations.
Year 2 have been reading books by Joanna Nadin and have been writing about these. We have also been looking at plants
and how their leaves are different.
Year 3 have been learning about Robots this week and how they can help. They have been writing news reports about
events that happen and how the robots helped.
Year 4 have been learning about the Shang Dynasty in literacy. In maths we have been learning about decimals, multiplication and division.
Year 5 have been exploring different myths and their themes. The children are working towards writing their own. In
maths, the children have been developing their mental strategies when adding and subtracting.
Year 6 have been working very hard on SATS revision and have been busy practising all their skills to try and improve
their levels. I have been very pleased with all the effort and enthusiasm they have put into their studies. Well done Year
6.
