The Goldeyes play tonight, tomorrow and Sunday in Kansas City before their exhibition schedule concludes Tuesday night in Wichita against the Wingnuts. Dingers and a Shutout: The Goldeyes shutout the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 6-0 Wednesday night at Shaw Park in a shortened seven inning affair, leaving the Goldeyes with a split of the quick two-game series... Brad Boyer hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, while Josh Mazzola hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning... Five Goldeyes pitchers combined to hold Fargo to just a single hit... Starter Rob Nixon pitched three scoreless innings, while Gabe Aguilar struck out two RedHawks in the fourth inning to get the win. Today’s Starting Pitcher: 2014 American Association Pitcher of the Year Nick Hernandez will start tonight for the Goldeyes... A former farmhand of the Philadelphia Phillies, Hernandez went 12-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 20 starts last season. Early Hitters: Through the first three games of the pre-season, Josh Mazzola leads the Goldeyes with five hits and two home runs... Rookie outfielder Brady Wilson is 3-for-6 with three walks in the three games. Wilson’s first two hits were triples and he’s reached base in six of nine plate appearances. Canadian Content: The CRTC will be happy to know that there are three Canadian arms looking for a role on the Goldeyes pitching staff this spring... Rob Nixon is looking land a spot in the starting rotation, while returnee Taylor Bratton and newcomer Jon Fitzsimmons are looking for a role in the bullpen... All three hurlers hail from Ontario... Additionally, transplanted Californian Brendan Lafferty now makes his home in Winnipeg. Staff Intact: For the second consecutive season, the Goldeyes coaching staff remains intact from the previous season, as hitting coach Tom Vaeth and pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea return with manager Rick Forney... Vaeth has been with the organization since 2003, while Vermilyea returned to the organization in 2013 after serving as the team’s closer in 2011. On the Airwaves: Steve Schuster returns as the Voice of the Goldeyes after taking over the headset last season from longtime voice Paul Edmonds...
