St. Charles East High School Presents Sound of Music April 24 – 26, 2015 Norris Cultural Arts Center. The final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein was destined to become legendary and remains popular as the movie version celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Featuring such memorable songs as “The Sound of Music,” “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria,” “16 going on 17,” “Edelweiss,” and “Climb Every Mountain,” The Sound of Music remains one of the most beloved musicals of our time. When a postulant, Maria Reiner played by Jessica Blakely, proves too high spirted for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain, played by Jake Thompson. Once a loving father, he became a strict and detached disciplinarian. Maria re-introduces the children to music with songs such as “Do-Re-Mi,” and “The Lonely Goatherd.” Through her growing rapport with the children and generous spirit, she captures the Captain’s heart. Will their harmonious lives be torn apart when their beautiful homeland is invaded by the Nazi regime? Performances are Friday, April 24th and Saturday, April 25th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 26th at 2 p.m.. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the theater door a half hour before curtain or reserved by calling 331.228.5712.
