CALL FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS
Above and Beyond is the theme at the Library for Spring 2015 and we will be exploring
the topic through the photography exhibition, Extraordinary Glimpses: Our Harford
Community. The show will open at the Jarrettsville Library during National Library Week
with a reception featuring Navy combat photographer Chief Mass Communications
Specialist Philip McDaniel on April 15th. Extraordinary Glimpses will run through June 1st.
Professional and amateur regional photographers of all ages are invited to submit two (2) photographs to be
considered for inclusion. Work can be black and white or color; vertical or horizontal; any size up to 11” x 14”;
we will NOT accept works obviously manipulated by computer. Photos must be your personal work!
Please closely consider the theme of the show. We are looking for photographs of the extraordinary - the people
and places that are “above and beyond” the everyday. Photos should depict examples of service, perseverance,
duty, sacrifice, loyalty, individualism, etc.
Twenty-four entries will be blindly selected for the show by a committee (including the Library Community
Relations Specialist, a local photographer not submitting, and a representative of the Harford County Cultural
Arts Board) based on their depiction of the theme and quality of the photography. Notification of inclusion will
be to the email address used to submit photos and will take place on or before March 13, 2015.
Once selected for inclusion, photographs must be professionally framed at the artists’ expense in a black metal
11”x14” frame and matting of their choice.
The 24 works hanging in the show will be blindly judged by a panel of three judges the day of the reception.
The judges will include two professional photographers who have not submitted and a member of the Jarrettsville
Friends group. Prizes will be $250 for 1st; $150 for 2nd; $100 for 3rd; 2 Honorable Mentions of $50.
To be considered for the exhibition, email up to two submission photos (no smaller than 400 x 400
px and no larger than 600 x 600 px) to Bethany Hacker, hacker@hcplonline.org, by March 6, 2015.
Please name the file with your last name - title of photograph (ex: hacker-extraordinary glimpse).
Exhibition photos will be sold over the course of the exhibition for $25. Those that are sold will be a donation
to the Library with the photographer receiving a donation letter from the Foundation for tax purposes. Those that
are not sold may be picked up by the photographer within two weeks of the close of the show (June 1, 2015.
Notification will be sent). If they are not picked up, they will become the property of the Library.
If you have questions, please contact me at hacker@hcplonline.org or 410-273-5600 x 2243. We look forward
to seeing the submissions!
