REPORTS TO: Brian Lally - Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer, North Shore-LIJ Health System NORTH SHORE-LIJ FOUNDATION – AVP, STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS PREPARED BY HEYMAN ASSOCIATES PAGE 2 OF 3 SUMMARY: The Assistant Vice President is responsible for the vision and leadership of strategic communications in support of fundraising priorities for the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System (NSLIJHS). As a key member of the senior management team, the AVP is critical to the development and implementation of cross-divisional communications strategies to promote nationwide philanthropic giving in support of the NSLIJHS mission. The AVP guides long-range planning with intra-organizational program and divisional communications such as Public Relations, Marketing, and other strategic business units at NSLIJHS to facilitate inter-connectedness and drive forward cohesive and sustainable communications efforts that support NSLIJHS fundraising priorities. The AVP provides strategic counsel to the Chief Development Officer, Foundation leadership and staff, and institutional leadership and volunteers to advance philanthropic goals for NSLIJHS. RESPONSIBILITIES: o Identify and clarify communications needs and objectives to shape communications strategies that leverage development and campaign activities to inform, steward, and engage existing donors, raise awareness among key prospect pools, and recruit new donors. o Provide strategic direction for all development communications, specifically campaign strategy. Frame multidisciplinary, disease based fundraising campaigns and oversee messaging for principal, major gift, gift planning, and annual giving opportunities to leverage fundraising and campaign activities. o Collaborate with the VP of Operations, overseeing communications planning and implementation for internal Foundation activities. o Lead the planning for an internal communications strategy and develop messaging to inform internal stakeholders and engage employees in providing philanthropic support for NSLIJHS. o Oversee a staff charged with the deployment of internal and external communications resources to achieve fundraising goals. Evaluate effectiveness of existing strategies. o Oversee the creation and maintenance of the development websites, including sites that support NSLIJ HS Foundation fundraising. o Manage the development communications budget and establish operational goals and metrics. o Provide staff coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities that increase capabilities and create an environment of engagement. REQUIREMENTS: o Seasoned marketing and communications professional experience with a strong track record of leadership, management, and administrative effectiveness in a decentralized and complex environment with multiple stakeholder groups. o 7-10 years of experience in communications, journalism, and/or public relations; Master’s degree preferred. o Experience in development communications and donor engagement. o Excellent verbal and written communication and analytical skills. o Demonstrated problem-solving and leadership ability. o Ability to work collaboratively and use influence skills to drive campaign communications. o Knowledge of and experience with Raiser’s Edge system preferred.
