Spring 2015, Issue 6 Campaign Donor Issue The Campaign to Build Kern County’s First and Only Hospice Home. Campaign Update Official Hospice Home Blessing Written and delivered by Chairman of the Board- Jim Wren On January 7, 2015 Hoffmann Hospice employees and volunteers toured the Hospice Home and recorded their blessings on the beams and floors before the final phase of construction begins. Hoffmann Hospice Patient Care Manager, Laura Dobson said, “The prayers and blessings bestowed upon the building were not just for the brick and mortar that makes our hospice home, but for the precious patients we serve, the caregivers entrusted with their comfort, and the souls that pass on. The blessings and prayers inspire and motivate me to carry on the mission of Hoffmann Hospice with a true hospice heart. “ The Employee and Volunteer Campaign was also launched at the blessing event allowing employees and volunteers to help with a very special project by raising money to place a one of a kind piece of stained glass inside the chapel. The Chapel stained glass was chosen because it represents the heart and mission of Hoffmann Hospice. The campaign goal is to have 100% participation and support from our employees and volunteers in this project. The 21st annual Voices of Inspiration was one of the most successful events for Hoffmann Hospice yet. Keynote Speaker, Vin Scully brought in a packed house and helped raise funds to support Hoffmann Hospice’s unfunded patients, programs and services. In addition a special Fund -A-Need portion of the evening raised over $318,000, including 3 $100,000 pledges to name a patient suite and 6 pledges to provide comfortable recliners in the rooms Thank you to everyone that made a pledge in support of Hoffmann Hospice and the “Comforts of Home” project. O gracious Father in heaven. Almighty God. Sovereign Ruler of heaven and earth. Generous giver of all good things. Faithful forgiver of our sin. Tender lover of our souls. In whose Son is eternal life. Worthy of our worship are you. And humbled are we to bow in your presence. O Lord our God, in the solemnity of this moment, we pause to worship you in the quietness of our heart. Dear Lord, as we celebrate with smiles this special occasion, appropriately, we turn to you with thanksgiving. We acknowledge your ownership of this special place. We acknowledge that all of this is not remotely possible, were it not for the abundance of your grace. This is indeed sacred ground, and our fervent prayer is that you would use this sacred place to accomplish your sacred purposes. Your sacred purposes in the lives of our patients; your sacred purposes in the lives of their families; your sacred purposes in our own lives. Empower us, O God, by the might of your hand, to guide those you bring here through this difficult season of life with dignity and grace. May our patients truly experience here the comforts of home. Lord, this is the prayer of our hearts. May this home truly feel like home to them. Enable us to care for them well. Enable us to comfort them well. Enable us to love them well. And use us, God of all peace, use us to minister your peace to their souls. And finally Lord, we ask that you anoint Scripture we are about to inscribe throughout this place, so that these halls proclaim, so that these walls sing of the comforting presence of our Father in heaven, who deeply, perfectly and everlastingly loves his children. This we pray, for the sake of your glory alone, and in the name of Christ, Amen Honor Your Loved one with an Enduring Message from the Heart on the Walk of Hope Leave a lasting memorial in honor of a loved one by placing a genuine granite paver in the Walk of Hope at Kern County’s first and only hospice home. Project Manager Gary Grumbles We are now entering the 8th month of construction on Kern County’s first and only Hospice Home. The framing of the structure is now complete and the roof is in its final stages. The windows have been installed and exterior finishes have commenced. Crews of workers are focused on installing all of the electrical, plumbing and air conditioning systems necessary for the operation of the building. Over the next several weeks the installation of those systems will be complete and we will commence sheet rocking and completing the interior walls. If you haven’t driven by the project lately you will be amazed at the progress that has been made since the first of the year. We are on schedule to complete the project this Summer.
