A Word from the Pastor Easter 2015 Jesus Christ is risen today! The triumphant Easter proclamation contains the greatest of all truths – “God is with us”, our Redeemer, has risen from the dead. The Catholic faith is a sacramental faith. In short, this means that our belief hinges on God interacting with humanity in a manner in which the invisible reality of God is made visible. For instance, when we confess our sins in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, we can experience the certainty of knowing that God forgives us. Jesus’ resurrection has immediate consequences for us because it indicates His power and the effects it can have in our lives. In our experience, at times things happen in our lives which may make life seem meaningless, or hostile to us, or indifferent to us. It is at these moments, where the Resurrection of Jesus Christ reminds us that a meaning and purpose and concern does exist and that we are not alone. At times, we want an answer, and yet this is not what we truly need. Answers may satisfy curiosity but they won’t satisfy the longing that we have. A way of looking at our need for a pat answer to life’s mysteries is to consider a boiler. It is not necessary for a person to have a deep technical knowledge to get warm. And when someone is cold they are not interested in the details of how they work they just want it to get running again. The boiler isn’t a machine that provides information, it provides heat. In Easter, we are offered glimpses into God’s plan for us, by the Risen Christ. Relationship with God is not an intellectual exercise or something that is exactly the same for every person. Relationship with God is His personal invitation for each of us. In the light of Jesus, we see the way in which to live and His constant care and concern for our well-being. In the Resurrection we see that Jesus’ love is limitless and that His mission is one of immeasurable mercy for us. As we celebrate our Lord’s triumph over the powers of sin and death, may our hearts open to the Good News and the power it has to transform our lives. Happy Easter! Peace be with you!
