Home-Base Newsletter ● April/May 2015 Newsletter A GLIMPSE INTO LIFE AT HOME-BASE OUR BRAND-NEW promotional video has now been released and it has been exciting to show more people and organisations what Home-Base is all about. Some of the photos on this page are screenshots from this video clip. Go and have a look at it on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xALA3Hl_ydk&fea ture=youtu.be. Please share this video with others and help spread the message of the great need of orphaned youth aging out of the system. For more info, people can also visit our website at www.home-base.org We are working with a number of children’s homes across South Africa, helping their students with career guidance and next steps. Dennis will be in Cape Town next week to help Royal Rangers students with career guidance; and we will be meeting with students in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga in June. At the moment, there is also great excitement at HomeBase about an offer of a modular home for Home-Base students (see next page) and we are trusting the Lord for a place where we can put it. We continue to develop Work-Base, the vocational training school that is set to be launched soon. Lois Turner, our full-time volunteer will be arriving soon and she is excited about investing her time in getting this project off the ground. We also have another couple joining our volunteer team soon (more of this on page 3). The Home-Base students are doing very well and gearing up for the June exams. We are all looking forward to the arrival of Beatrice, the new Home-Base student, in June. As always, thank you for your continuous support and prayers – we could never do this alone! With love, Dennis & Nicky Home-Base Vision Providing hope and a future for orphaned and vulnerable youth by creating opportunities for further education so that they can reach their full potential. RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMME | CAREER GUIDANCE | FUNDING | MENTORING | VOCATIONAL TRAINING Home-Base Newsletter ● April/May 2015 LAND NEEDED FOR A prototype house FOR HOME-BASE A local company, Elungileyo Solutions, approached us with AN OFFER TO DONATE A PROTOTYPE HOME for Home-Base students. It has always been our dream to have a Home-Base campus, where we can create a community of students, and this affordable and sustainable housing solution might just be the first step towards realising this dream. It is a 48m2 house to the value of R110 000, with 2 bedrooms, 1 fully fitted bathroom and an open plan lounge and fitted kitchen. This home is thermal, green and modular (can be added to and moved). We will be able to house two or three students with a team leader in it. This is a real answer to prayer at this time, with a new student as well as our girls’ team leader coming in June, and the possibility of at least 4 more students next year. If this house works well, it could be a perfect solution for Home-Base as we grow AS HOME-BASE, WE NEED A PLACE TO PUT THIS HOUSE ON. If you have an empty plot or part of a property that’s available in Johannesburg, that you are willing for us to use or that you might want to donate, please contact us. Alternatively, if you would like to donate finances towards us buying a piece of land or if you are open to investing in property in Johannesburg, please contact Dennis at dennis@home-base.org or 084 567 1843. FAMILY NEWS We’ve been asked to share some family news every now and again in our newsletters, and thought there’s no better time than now. Our four daughters have adapted very well to life in Joburg. In fact, they are loving it here. They enjoy their schools (most of the time), the church and what we are doing as Home-Base – even though it is challenging at times. Daniella is in Grade 12, her final year of school at Greenside High, and is doing very well academically. She is a senior leader and Head of Culture at S her school. She has been provisionally accepted to study her BA in Languages and Cultures at Stellenbosch University next year, so we are trusting that it will all work out! Talitha is in Grade 10 and only has two more years left in school! How time has flown. She is very creative and has started her own production company called Space Cinematography earlier this year. She is a gifted film-maker and is currently working on a new short film called Rhaine. Olivia is 10 and in Grade 4. She loves school and is such a hard worker. She’s very sociable and always has little friends visiting. She’s also creative but loves singing and dancing the most! Tiffany is 3 and will be 4 in October. She’s very wise for her age, having three older sisters! She’s such a personality and we all enjoy her. Having a three year old around is always a bit challenging though. All in all, we are well. We work hard and try to balance it with family outings and fun times. Please continue to pray for us and for our girls as we break new ground and sometimes feel the pressure of it on us as a family. Home-Base Newsletter ● April/May 2015 Make a dream come true! Consider Home-Base for your company’s Corporate Social Initiative. Cover one month’s Home-Base rent: R5500 once-off Contribute a once-off gift towards the launch of the vocational training school (we need to fit a kitchen for chef’s training). THE HOME-BASE TEAM IS GROWING Consider sponsoring a student for vocational training next year. We would like to welcome David and Dorette Pienaar to the HomeBase team! This couple has a passion to see young people reach their full potential, and have a lot to give in terms of upskilling, pastoral care and living life to the full. They have joined us as volunteers and have made Home-Base a main focus of their ministry. Help us find part-time work for the current students. Donate clothing, household or kitchen items. Please pray for us. They have already had the Home-Base students over for a traditional Afrikaans lunch last weekend, which the students thoroughly enjoyed! Welcome Dave and Dorette – we look forward to working with you and seeing what God is going to do. PRAYER REQUESTS Please continue to pray for Home-Base and the students we are helping: Please pray for a piece of land where we can put our brand-new home that was donated to Home-Base, which we hope to be the new girls’ cottage soon. Pray for our new student, Beatrice, who is going for her final interview at Camelot Spa Academy soon. Please pray for Nonto as she prepares to do the Year of your Life programme at Hatfield Church for the rest of this year. Please pray for finances for Home-Base as we are taking steps forward in launching the vocational training school. Finances are needed for various expenses, including equipping a kitchen. Please pray for the Lord to open doors for a venue with a suitable kitchen space that we can use for training. Pray for Lois Turner as she prepares to join Home-Base as a fulltime worker at the end of May. Pray especially for her visa to come through in time and for grace as she leaves home. Please pray for Andrew, Chris and Antoinette as they prepare for the June exams. Please pray for us as we meet new students, that we will make wise decisions regarding who would join us next year.
