Bury...
BURY is a town on the edge of
stunning countryside, but just eight
miles from the city of Manchester.
Part of the county of Greater Manchester, the Bury
borough is made up of smaller towns including
Ramsbottom, Tottington, Prestwich, Radcliffe and
Whitefield.
It is famous for a large and busy outdoor market, which
attracts visitors from all over the country.
As a shopping attraction the town has taken a major
step up in the past two years with the opening of a multimillion pound development in the town centre called The
Rock, which has a host of big name stores.
Links with the rest of the region are strong, thanks to
proximity to the M66, M60 and M62 motorways.
But a big transport boom is the Metrolink tram system
which runs to the centre of the town; this means that you
can be in Manchester in less than 20 minutes.
The newly built Fusiliers Museum in the town centre is
a popular attraction, as is the East Lancashire Railway,
which still operates steam locomotives on a run from Bury
to Rawtenstall.
