their hounds inspected prior to the designated inspection time by the full inspection committee.

STAKES OFFERED
Junior Courser and Qualified Courser Tests. These tests are open to hounds at least 12
months of age.
Open Stake: Open to all hounds that have run in AKC lure coursing competition prior to 1
January 2010 or have obtained an AKC Qualified Courser certificate. This requirement will be
waived for hounds that have earned a Field Championship title from the American Sighthound
Field Association (ASFA) or the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC). ASFA or CKC Field Champions
must submit a copy of their title certificate to the host club when they enter their first AKC
Open Stake. This copy must be included when the results of the trial are sent to the AKC.
Championship points earned from the Open Stake will only count toward a Field Champion
title. Hounds that have earned an AKC Field Championship title are not eligible to enter the
Open Stake.
Specials Stake. Open to all hounds that have earned an AKC Field Championship title.
Championship points earned from the Specials Stake will count toward Lure Courser Excellent
titles. Qualifying scores earned from the Specials Stake will count toward a Senior Courser or
Master Courser title.
Veteran Stake. Open to all hounds which are eligible to enter Open or Special stakes and
meet the age requirement for a veteran as established by the breed’s parent club – 6 years of
age; except Irish Wolfhounds = 5 years; Whippets and Rhodesian Ridgebacks = 7 years. Points
won from the Veteran Stake may count toward either a Field Championship title or Lure
Courser Excellent title.
Singles Stake: Open to all sighthound breeds approved to participate in AKC Lure Coursing
trials and hounds with breed disqualifications. Hounds entered in the Singles Stake cannot enter
the regular stakes at the same event Each hound shall run the course alone. Single Stake entries
from all breeds shall be combined to determine placements. Placements shall be awarded based
on the combined preliminary and final course scores. The winner of the stake shall not be eligible
to compete in Best of Breed and/or Best in Field courses. Limit 5 single entries
CAT: The Coursing Ability Test (CAT) is an introductory event fashioned after the sport lure
coursing. It will provide a fun and healthy activity attractive to many dog owners.
CAT Test: the 600 yard tests will run first then 300yards. Tests to begin as close to 2:30pm as
possible entrants will be assigned a time for their test as entries are received on a first come

ELIGIBLE BREEDS & REGISTRY
Only purebred Afghan Hounds, Azawakhs, Basenjis, Borzois, Greyhounds, Ibizan Hounds, Irish
Wolfhounds, Italian Greyhounds, Pharaoh Hounds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Salukis, Scottish
Deerhounds, Sloughis, Thai Ridgebacks and Whippets that are one year of age or older, and
that have been registered with the AKC or are part of an AKC-registered litter or have been
granted a PAL or ILP or, if whelped outside the USA and owned by a resident of the USA or of
a country with a foreign registry organization whose pedigrees are acceptable for AKC
registration and are registered with that registry, are eligible to participate. Hounds may not be
entered as “registration pending” or “ILP pending.” Breed disqualifications apply. Portuguese
Podengos (Medio and Grande) may compete for suffix titles only.
CAT is open to all dogs at least 12 months of age that are individually registered with the AKC,
recorded in the FSS program, dogs with PAL numbers or dogs enrolled in the AKC Canine
Partners program.
GENERAL INFORMATION
 Bitches in season, hounds with breed disqualifications and lame hounds will be excused.










Monorchid and cryptorchid hounds may not be entered. Spayed or neutered hounds may
be entered.
Hounds not present at roll call will be scratched and entry fees will not be refunded.
Electric-powered, continuous loop lure machine(s) will be used with back-up equipment
available.
The lure will consist of plastic contrasting in color with the immediate field environment.
Courses will be reversed for finals. HRVHA reserves the right to alter the course as required
by weather or field conditions on the day of the trial.
Muzzles are not required; it is the responsibility of the owner to determine if a hound should
be muzzled.
A fine of $5 will be assessed for any loose hound not competing in the course in progress.
A returned check fee of $35 will be assessed for any dishonored check.
An exhibitor behaving in an unsportsmanlike manner, or whose dog is deemed a danger to
others, may be asked to leave the grounds.
HRVHA assumes no liability for injury to any person or dog before, during or after these
trials. The field is not fenced.
Please bring adequate water, shade and/or shelter for yourself and your hounds.
ACCOMMODATIONS
**Overnight camping on our field is always permitted (no hook-ups) – tents, trailers,
motor homes, & RVs are welcomed**
This is a heavy tourist area – summer rates for motels can be substantially higher;
motels and hotels around the Cooperstown vicinity fill up very quickly.

DIRECTIONS DO NOT totally depend on your GPS device or you may end up in a cow
fiel (Starkville is 14 miles southwest of the NYS Thruway Exit 29)
FROM THE EAST or NORTHEAST: New York State Thruway (I-90) to Exit 29 (mm 194 –
Canajoharie, Sharon Springs, Fort Plain, Cooperstown, Oneonta, St. Johnsville). Pay the toll –
the big white Beech Nut Foods factory will be on your right, a Betty Beaver’s Getty station &
small convenience store is on the left. Turn RIGHT at the stop sign onto State Route (SR) 5-S
West. Go thru the little traffic light in Canajoharie, and continue on SR 5-S West for about 3
miles to the village of Fort Plain. Drive across a small steel bridge over the canal -- turn LEFT at
the light onto SR 80 South. (Two blocks down on the left there is a Valero gas/diesel
station & Nice n’ Easy convenience store, if you need to pick up ice or snacks or use the
restroom – there is nothing between Fort Plain and the house. Watch the speed limits.
Be sure your seat belts are fastened {heavy fines up here}). Stay on SR 80 South for
about 9 miles – then watch for a ‘Speed Zone Ahead’ sign (35 mph) and a small painted sign
Village of Starkville. Please slow down (watch for cats, dogs, kids, tractors & Amish buggies).
Elwood Road (CR 74) is the first road on the LEFT immediately after the sign for SR 168.
(If you reach Rt. 168 on the right, you passed Elwood Rd.)
Turn LEFT onto Elwood, and continue for 1.5 miles – the road snakes left, then right, then
straightens out. Continue up the hill (the road snakes again at the top). Woflwind is the first farm
on the RIGHT after the fields. (Amish farm is on the left). Access to the field is via the gravel
driveway – signs will be posted. Farm house is on the other side of the line of tall evergreen
trees – white house, green trim and roofs, black mailbox #381, small circular drive. [About 13
miles from Exit 29.]
FROM THE WEST or NORTHWEST: New York State Thruway (I-90) East to Exit 30
(Herkimer). Pay the toll, turn LEFT at the traffic light, cross over the Mohawk River & Erie Canal
bridge. Continue through that traffic light, turn LEFT at the next traffic light onto SR 28 South
(Fastrac gas station/convenience store will be on your right after you make the turn – it’s
the last store & gas station before the house from that direction). Continue south on SR 28
for about ¾ mile, then turn LEFT onto Rt. 168 (before the big hill). Continue on Rt. 168 for about
15.3 miles (curvy, hilly road) – at the end, turn LEFT onto State Rt. 80, and immediately RIGHT
onto Elwood Road. Follow Elwood Rd 1.5 miles around and up the hill, our place is the first farm
on the right past the fields. [About 17 miles from Exit 30.]
FROM THE SOUTH (Binghamton area): Take Rt. 88 EAST to Exit 13 (Oneonta). Turn LEFT
onto Rt. 205 NORTH – follow to State Route 80 NORTH. Continue on SR 80 North through
historic Cooperstown, continue for 10 miles, cross through the intersection at State Rt. 20
(Springfield Center) (Kelly's gas station & convenience store is on the right). Continue on
SR 80 North for about 9 miles (very curvy, hilly road) - Elwood Rd is the first RIGHT past Rt.
168. Follow Elwood Rd 1.5 miles around and up the hill, our place is the first farm on the right
past the fields. [About 55 miles from Exit 13.]
ALTERNATE FROM THE SOUTH (Binghamton area): Continue on Rt 205 NORTH onto NY80/NY-205, stay LEFT at fork to follow NY-205, then make a slight LEFT onto NY-28 for about 9
miles (Richfield Springs). Make a RIGHT onto US-20 EAST, continue for about 6.3 mile to the
traffic light at the intersection of NY-80 (Springfield Center) (Kelly's gas station &
convenience store is on the right diagonal). Make a LEFT at the light onto NY-80 NORTH,
continue for about 9 miles (very curvy, hilly road) - Elwood Road is the first RIGHT past Rt.
168. Follow as above.
