Attention Parents and Students - This bulletin will be published each month by the Counseling Center. The
information contained in this bulletin is exclusively for seniors and provides up-to-date details on a variety of topics
for “college-bound” and “work-bound” students. College information, scholarships and financial aid are just some
of the topics to be included.
Students who are seeking employment or internships and are work-bound are encouraged to establish contact with
Mrs. Grafstein at 382-2977. She can assist them in their career plans and employment contacts.
Copies of the bulletin will be available in the Counseling Center, Naviance and on the high school website. Please

The U.S. Department of Education announces the FAFSA Express software. FAFSA Express is a faster and
easier way for students to apply for federal student aid. It is a free Windows-based computer program with easy-tofollow screens that resemble the paper Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA Express can be
downloaded at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Research scholarships on the internet at the following website www.finaid.org – this page will give you step by
step directions to conduct a scholarship search.
NOMINATIONS - If it is indicated that a scholarship requires a nomination by Smithtown High School, students
must submit their names for consideration to the Counseling Center by the nomination date.
Applications are available in the Counseling Center unless otherwise noted.
Suffolk County Community College – Suffolk offers more than $550,000 in scholarships. Students may apply by
going to their website at www.sunysuffolk.edu/Scholarships. Students are encouraged to apply immediately.
Long Island Center for Business & Professional Women Scholarships – is offering scholarships in the categories
of Academic Excellence, Community Service and Self Improvement. DEADLINE: April 13, 2015.
Professional Nurses Association of Suffolk County (PNASC) – has a scholarship for a student entering an
accredited professional nursing (RN) program. The criteria also includes active participation in school and/or
community service, two letters of recommendation, a written statement of personal/ professional goals and provide a
transcript. DEADLINE: April 15, 2015.
The Solon Society – has a scholarship for students of Hellenic descent. Emphasis will be placed on financial need,
academic achievement and extra-curricular activities. DEADLINE: April 15, 2015.
Daniel DiStefano and Michael Western Scholarship – Remember Dan and Mike - This scholarship offers
financial assistance to qualifying Smithtown senior pursuing college in the fall. For information and application
please visit scholarship@rememberdanandmike.com. DEADLINE: April 16, 2015.
Smithtown College Scholarship Committee Scholarship: All Smithtown High School graduating seniors are
encouraged to apply for this scholarship. Each applicant will be evaluated based upon the student's high school
record in relation to his goals, school and community service, financial need, and other significant information
supplied by the applicant. The application is available in the counseling center or can be downloaded at
www.smithtowncollegescholarshipcommittee.org. DEADLINE: April 21, 2015.
Smithtown Garden Club Scholarship – The applicant must be pursuing a college curriculum in agriculture,
horticulture, floral design or environmental studies and a minimum 3.0 GPA. DEADLINE: April 23, 2015.
Island Federal Credit Union – is open to any student who is accepted into a full-time undergraduate program and a
holder of an Island checking/debit card at the time the entry is submitted. For information and application visit their
website at islandfcu.com. DEADLINE: April 24, 2015.
The Sparklers Baton Twirling Scholarship – is open to a student who has participated in the Sparkler program for
at least one season and submit a short essay on their twirling experience. DEADLINE: April 28, 2015.
Thomas Cutinella Memorial Scholarship – The applicant must be pursuing a higher education, minimum 3.0
GPA, demonstrate volunteerism and involvement in extra –curricular activities, provide two letters of
recommendation and submit an essay on “Explain who or what inspires you to help others.” DEADLINE April 30,
2015.
The Long Island Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC-LI) – has a scholarship for students
planning to enroll in an accredited two-year or four-year college or vocation-technical school committed to
enhancing and promoting sustainability in our community. DEADLINE: April 30, 2015.
2015 BP Community Scholarship Program – has a scholarship for a student enrolling in a two or four-year college
or university in the fall. The student must demonstrate financial need. For more information visit their website at

ASSET Scholarship-Association of Suffolk Supervisors for Educational Technology – is for a student entering
into higher education and studying fields that integrate technology. For more information and application visit their

Theatre Three Julie Peierls Scholarship – is for students pursuing a career in the professional theatre and will be
continuing their theatrical education in college. Students will be required to submit an application, participate in an
audition, and an interview. For application and information visit theatrethree.com. DEADLINE: May 20, 2015.
PWGC 2015 Scholarship Program – is for a student majoring in one of the sciences: Geology, Hydrogeology,
Biology, Earth Science, Environmental Studies, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Engineering or Civil
Engineering, .or other related studies. DEADLINE: May 4, 2015
2015 Long Island Music Hall of Fame Scholarship – The applicant must demonstrate interest in pursuing a career
in music, minimum 2.5 GPA, acceptance into at an accredited college or university and financial need. To apply

Adelphi University – Dorothea Deitz Scholarship – This scholarship will be awarded to a female student
intending to enter the teaching of physical education at Adelphi University. The applicant must have strong
leadership skills, community/school service and academic excellence. DEADLINE: May 28, 2015.
