Over the last 65 years,
Inland has developed a
reputation for providing
top quality products,
service and support.
Regardless
of
the
industry or region, our
Bill Currie
customers know that
when they deal with any Inland company,
they will be treated fairly. So – when our
corporate management team gathered in
my office back in October, we knew it was
time for our brand identity to reflect our
true strength and tradition.
What is a brand, exactly? In short, it’s
everything we are as a company. A brand is
like a personality. Just like a person, Inland
has its own look, its own voice and its own
values that a customer will eventually begin
to expect every time they enter a store or
talk with a salesperson.
For someone who knows us well, it’s not
hard to see that we’ve established much
of our brand already. We’re known for our
strong relationships and for being there
when our customers need us. The final step,
however, came down to a visual identity
that people will recognize and associate
with the rest of our reputation.

As many of you know, we recently rolled
out an updated logo. The new, bolder
Inland was step one in an ongoing effort
to add strength and consistency to our
image. This winter, we also decided to drop
the Parker Pacific brand and bring all our
divisions back behind the name that is so
recognizable across the industry – Inland.
A major step in the process will also be the
production of a brand standards guide.
While the guide will enforce strict rules on
logo usage, colors and fonts, we hope it will
help everyone realize the importance of a
strong brand and be proud of who we are.
There are many more steps in this process. As
our new parts and service trucks roll in, we
have begun to install a cleaner, consistent
decal package that you’ll eventually see at
all locations. Soon, you’ll also see our new
business cards that boldly display our new
logo and colors.
Looking forward, we will work to bring
consistency across all signage, clothing
and advertisements. Our website redesign,
scheduled to launch later this year, will more

The final step comes down to our individual
responsibilities. This project will have a
long lasting positive effect but only if each
and every one of us ensure that we always
communicate the proper message. By the
end of this transition, we will make sure
that all the tools are available to represent
Inland consistently and accurately.
I greatly appreciate your patience as a
project this big has taken a lot of discussion
and a lot of thought. Inland’s success has
all been due to your hard work and it’s our
goal that our brand reflects that success.

Saying Goodbye After 35 Years!
On March 24, we said goodbye to
Tom Connatty, dealer manager
at our Kamloops branch and
Inland employee for 35 years.
Tom began his career in parts
at our Quesnel branch. He also
had stints in credit and in truck
sales. Tom then took his first
dealer management position at
our Terrace location where he
moved with his wife, Sharon, son,

On Monday April 13th, Inland
Kenworth (Montebello) hosted
twenty-five students from Los
Angeles Trade-Technical College
(LATTC) for a facility tour and
introduction to Inland Kenworth.
The students spent about 3 hours
listening to Jaime Larios (Service
Manager), Jonathan Marcenari
(Asst. Service Manager) and
Jorge Martinez (Shop Foreman)

He eventually transferred to
Kamloops as branch manager
where he would stay until
retirement.
We wish Tom a very happy
retirement. We hope he will find
lots of time for hunting, hockey
and curling!
A Visit From LATTC

Jaime Larios was just recently
became the President of the
LATTC Advisory Board. In this
capacity Jaime will be instrumental
in advancing the curriculum of
LATTC based upon real-world
requirements.
Quesnel Wins Inaugural Judy Cox Boot Award
On February 17, at the dealer managers meeting in
Richmond, BC, Quesnel was awarded the first ever
Judy Cox Boot Award for safety exellence.
The award was introduced as a
way to recognize the branch with
the top safety score during the
annual audit.

accepting the challenge to lead

Inland’s employees into a much higher standard of
Safety awareness, attitude, and practice,” remarked
Kent Brownlow, VP - Human Resources at the award
presentation. “Judy’s enthusiasm and passion for
her role was contagious and clearly provided the
guidance to keep us all much safer as we go about
our day-to-day responsibilities. The torch was
passed to Colette Mondin when Judy retired, and
being an accomplished marathon runner, I know
she is in it for the long run!”

On March 25, we celebrated Cathy Nicholson’s 35th
anniversary with a pizza lunch at the office.
Cathy has spent her whole career in our credit department
but she says the ever evolving environment is what has
kept her around for so many years.
“The ever changing workplace landscape - one of the
many reasons why I really like working for Inland,” says
Cathy. “From the daily workplace challenges, to the staff
that have come and stayed and the ones that have come
and gone. 35 years – can’t believe how time has flown.”

Since the beginning, Inland ownership has always strongly
believed in the importance of reinvesting in the company. Over the
next couple of years, we will continue to see new state-of-the-art
facilities as well as new locations added to the Inland network.
Construction has begun for our new Phoenix location. The new
facility will have easier access from Highway 10. It will be over
100,000 square feet on 17 acres and be comprised of two service
shops, a body shop, a large parts warehouse and sales area.
Expected completion will be late this year.
Within the next year, construction is expected to begin on our new
Prince George facility. The total retained property is 17 acres and is
right on Highway 97, with excellent access and visibility. The facility
itself will be approximately 100,000 square feet - complete with full
truck and equipment services. Inland will be just one of the new
businesses in this development as we hope to sell the surrounding
property to complementary and ancillary type businesses.
Inland has just purchased a 4.52 acre site in Delta. This has prime
visibility from the new South Fraser Perimeter Road (S.F.P.R). This
new location will help us better service our customers located in
the area, enable us to cultivate new business and service truck
demand on the newly constructed S.F.P.R.
We will also be reconfiguring our Kamloops branch. With this
redesign, we will be able to fully maximize our parts warehouse
space, create a new equipment customer service area, consolidate
our parts room and add a new lunchroom, locker room, customer
lounge and sales offices.

Health & Well-Being: Fighting Stress with Food
Can certain foods help us better cope with stress? Yes…and no. In times of extreme
stress, our bodies release hormones that activate our sympathetic nervous system that
then stimulate the adrenal glands to release adrenaline and noradrenaline. Woman

the muscles, preparing our bodies to either fight or flee the threat. At such times, bodily
functions not related to fighting or fleeing are temporarily put on hold – including the
absorption of nutrients.
However, if our bodies are already well-nourished, we can better weather these intense
periods of stress, as well as life’s daily challenges; if we are lacking in certain nutrients
we are less able to do so. For example, a lack of protein, iron, B vitamins, vitamin D and
magnesium each contribute to increased fatigue, anxiety and moodiness. So instead
of reaching for the potato chips, pudding or pie, incorporate the following foods into
your diet:
1. Spinach contains magnesium, which helps improve your body’s response to stress and may help reduce migraines or headaches.
2. Oatmeal. Carbs help you produce serotonin, a calming hormone that helps fight anxiety’s negative effects – which is probably why
many of us crave them when we are stressed. Indulge your craving but choose a healthier option, such as oatmeal. It is high in fibre, which
means that your body will absorb it slowly, prolonging the serotonin boost and making sure your blood sugar is in check.
3. Asparagus is high in folate, which produces serotonin and helps stabilize mood.
4. Turkey. That sleepy feeling you get after eating Thanksgiving dinner is due to the amino acid tryptophan found in turkey. Tryptophan
signals the brain to release the feel-good chemical serotonin, which promotes calmness and even fatigue.
5. Milk, including skim milk, is high in antioxidants and vitamins B2 and B12. It also provides you with protein and calcium, which can
reduce cramps, muscle spasms or tension and soothe premenstrual syndrome (PMS) for women.
6. Nuts and seeds cure many cravings because they are salty and crunchy. They also contain vitamin B12, magnesium, and zinc. Almonds
also provide vitamin E, which, like vitamin C, fights stress-related free radicals that cause heart disease. Walnuts and pistachios are known
to lower blood pressure. Sunflower seeds include folate, which helps produce dopamine, a pleasure-inducing brain chemical. Cashews are
a good source of zinc – low levels of zinc have been linked to both anxiety and depression. Since our bodies have no way of storing zinc,
it is important to get some every day. Toss a handful into your stir-fry!
7. Berries. Blueberries have some of the highest levels of an antioxidant known as anthocyanin, and they have been linked to all kinds
of positive health outcomes, including sharper cognition. But all berries, including strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, are rich in
vitamin C, which has been shown to be helpful in combating stress.
8. Oranges are rich in vitamin C, which is known to lower blood pressure and the stress hormone cortisol.
9. Fish containing omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, can help reverse stress symptoms by boosting serotonin levels. An omega-3- rich
diet can also help suppress the production of the anxiety hormones cortisol and adrenaline.
10. Avocados contain lutein, beta-carotene, vitamin E, B-vitamins and more folate than any other fruit.
11. Chocolate. Yes, even chocolate can help relieve stress – but make it dark. High in flavonoids, which are lauded for their relaxing
properties (chamomile tea is another great source), chocolate also contains phenethylamine, a chemical that enhances your mood. Try
chocolate that is 70 percent cacao or higher.
The key to a nutritious diet – including the items above – is moderation and reasonable consumption. Remember, there is a threshold
which can be crossed – when consuming too much of a good thing!
