27 May 2015 From the Assistant Principal Vincent House Mass This Thursday at 9.00am we celebrate our Vincent House Mass. Parents are invited to join us at Mass, as we celebrate St Vincent de Paul who Vincent House is named after. Children are reminded to wear house shirts tomorrow. St Vincent de Paul was born on April 24 1581 to a peasant family. He had four brothers and two sisters. Vision Statement St Simon Peter Catholic Primary School community will provide challenges for the growth of the whole person. Within a framework of Catholic values, we will strive to live in harmony with each other and our environment living our motto “Love One Another.” De Paul went to a Franciscan school and then a university in Toulouse to study theology. He was ordained as a priest in 1600. In 1605, on his way back from Marseille, he was taken captive by Turkish pirates who sold him into slavery. After converting his owner to Christianity, Vincent de Paul escaped in 1607. In 1625 he founded the Congregation of the Mission and later, the Daughters of Charity. De Paul was renowned for his compassion, humility and generosity. The St Vincent de Paul Society, a charitable organisation, is named after him. Parent Forums Our annual Parent Forums take place on: Monday May 25 at 9.15am Thursday May 28 at 1.30pm Wednesday June 3 at 6.00pm Parent Forums are an opportunity for all parents to hear about new programs within our school and be updated on what is happening at SSP. We encourage one parent from each family to attend one of the sessions. We do value feedback from parents and next week in the newsletter there will be a link to Survey Monkey asking parents to give both feedback on the forum and on the 3 things (in ideal world) that they would like to see happen at SSP. You do not have to attend the forum to complete the survey. Please note that due to availability of presenters the order of the Agenda may vary. Level 5 4 Makes me feel Self-Regulation Out of control Very upset or angry In Pastoral Care this year, our school focus is Self -Regulation. SelfRegulation is about managing one’s internal states and resources. It is all about handling our emotions so they facilitate rather than interfere with the task at hand. Recovering well from emotional distress, wanting to achieve and do your best and reach your goals. The components of Self-Regulation are: Self-Control: keeping disruptive emotions and impulses in check Trustworthiness: maintaining standards of honesty and integrity 3 Not very good Conscientiousness: Taking responsibility for personal performance Adaptability: Flexibility in handling change Innovation: being comfortable with novel ideas, approaches and new information. 2 1 Okay One of the tools we use is the five point scale to the left. Students can rate how they feel on the scale with 1 being calm and 5 being distressed. We are working on students identifying where they are on the scale and what they can do about it. Good day Children who get picked up from the church after school Fr Darek has requested that students who wait to get picked up from the church after school do not play with sporting equipment. Balls have been found in the church gutters, which have blocked down pipes causing water damage to the ceiling in the church. There are also people in the chapel who are praying and to show respect towards these people children are requested to sit and wait quietly for their parents. St Simon Peter has registered to be a part of the Schools’ Wish List competition run by The West Australian. A box will be placed outside the office for entries. Entries appear in The Weekend West on Saturday June 13, 20 and 27. The more entries we receive the greater our chance of winning a prize!!
