join our crèche team.
You will be involved in assisting with the planning and

POSITION OBJECTIVES


To assist with the implementation and day-to-day running of a high quality childcare
service. The service aims to enable patrons to use the full range of services at
Bluewater or as occasional care.
Contribute to a positive customer experience and encourage further visitation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
Provision of Quality Childcare
 Assist in planning and implementing quality programs for children.
 Carry out all the tasks necessary to best care for children under your supervision.
 Maintain a clean and safe environment in the Service at all times.
 Ensure children are adequately supervised at all times whilst in the Centre’s care.
 Assist in the development and maintenance of good parent/child/staff relationships,
respecting individual attitudes and values.
 Carry out other reasonable duties as requested by the Children’s Programs Officer.

 Ensure accurate and prompt registration of all customer requests within the request

training provided).
 Make and keep accurate and complete records of business activities, including email.
 Ensure the quality and accuracy of data used or enter into TRIM

The Position: The role of the Childcare Assistant is to assist the Children’s Programs
Officer with the implementation and day-to-day running of the Service in accordance with
relevant legislative and organizational requirements.
CLASSIFICATION CRITERIA
Accountability and Extent of Authority
 Accountable for following emergency procedures as per the Bluewater Emergency
Management Plan.
 Accountable to the Children’s Programs Officer and Bluewater Centre Manager.
Judgement and Decision Making
 All decisions are made under supervision of the Children’s Programs Officer or in accordance
with Centre policies and procedures provided.
Specialist Skills & Knowledge
 Demonstrated knowledge of how to develop programs which document and plan for children’s
learning.
 An understanding of how to implement and respond to service programs according to the
needs of both the individual and the group.
 Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Learning Frameworks and
applicable legislation.
 Well-developed supervision skills of children and knowledge of current trends in child care.

Qualifications and Experience
 Minimum Certificate 3 of Children’s Services
 Level 2 First Aid
 Current Working with Children Check
 Current C.P.R.
 Current Anaphylaxis Management
 Current Asthma management (or willingness to obtain).
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Current relevant certificates and qualifications to undertake this role with industry experience
preferable.

Ability to assist with the development of programs that respond to client and participant
needs within a Childcare service.

Awareness of childcare related government regulations, Early Years Frameworks and
National Accreditation guidelines.

An understanding of Early Childhood Development theories and practices.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

An ability to build rapport with people of all ages and provide a safe and appropriate
environment for children.
SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS
The position will be according to a roster. The spread of hours for the Bluewater Fitness Centre is
5.30am – 10.00pm Monday to Friday with Bluewaters Childcare service currently operating
Monday to Friday 9am -11:30am.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING

pre-employment screening which includes:
 a criminal record check (including disclosure or any pending charges). Note: a
previous conviction or pending charge will not necessarily preclude an offer of
employment or engagement.

 confirmation of qualifications
 Physical assessment where specified in a position description because of the
inherent physical requirement of the job; and/or where a preferred candidate
indicates a pre-existing medical condition that may impact their ability to perform
the inherent requirements of the role.
 Working With Children Check
Satisfying Criminal Records Check Requirements:
An applicant satisfies the requirement for a criminal records check by either:
a) providing an original current National Police Certificate for verification (a certificate will
only be deemed current if it is dated within 6 months of the appointment); or,
b) completing a “consent to check” form enabling Colac Otway Shire Human Resources
staff to complete a criminal check on-line via its contracted service provider.
VERIFICATION OF QUALIFICATIONS
An applicant is required to verify academic or other qualifications by producing the original
certification documentation, or a certified copy, for viewing by a Colac Otway Shire Human

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT
The Bluewater Childcare Assistant (Casual) position is classified as a Band 3 within the Colac
Otway Shire Enterprise Agreement No. 6, 2013.The hourly rate of pay for the position is $31.19
(which includes 25% loading in lieu of accruing leave and public holidays). Due to the casual
nature of this position, Council has no obligation to guarantee hours. Junior rates may apply
dependent upon age. Membership of a superannuation fund is compulsory (default fund is Vision
Super).
