Shihan travels the world sharing his expertise with Kofukan students throughout the year. The Roleystone Dojo performed Kihon Ippon Kumite which translates to 'one technique sparring’ and was focused on the fundamental principle of performing the technique at the same time ('Ichi boroshi'). Along with Shihan’s guidance and the help of other senior instructors within the Dojo and Association, students were able to practice this concept in partners. Whilst Shihan’s visit to our Dojo was short we all took something away to continue to work on and apply to other areas of our karate. Shihan left us with a closing remark to remember to “practice properly all the time”. Whilst we were lucky to have Shihan visit our dojo on the 12th of May we also had two students within our Association who attempted their next Dan ("black belt") grading. If you are attempting to grade when Shihan is on his annual visit to Australia you are required to train with him for the entire week and have trained with him the year before also. In addition to this, the grading was a closed grading which meant parents, family and friends are not allowed to attend. Through their hard work and training we would like to congratulate Elrina Hartman (Roleystone Dojo) and Glen Baker (Mandurah Dojo) for passing their 2nd Dan grading. 2nd Dan Grading 14th May 2015 13 Oct - Term 4 Start Elrina Hartman & Glen Baker 18 Oct - Black Belt Grading at Roleystone Dojo 15 Nov - Proposed Dojo Tournament JEWELRY 26 Nov –General Grading & Term 4 End There appears to be too many students still wearing earrings, necklaces, bracelets and watches to class. Jewelry is a serious safety hazard in our sport, not only for the person wearing it but also for other students partnering them. 5 Dec - Trophy Presentation and Xmas Party at Roleystone Country Club Can we please ask students to remove their jewelry before coming to training or if it can not be removed it must be taped down each class. SPARRING EQUIPMENT There are too many students turning up to training without their sparring equipment (mouth guard and mitts). Sparring equipment is an essential part of your karate uniform and must be bought to every training session. It is essential for all students to have this equipment every training session. Students orange belt and up are required to spar for their next grading, not having sparring equipment will impact their chance to grade. Mitts can be ordered from the front desk for as little at $20 and mouth guards can be purchased from the local chemist and costs between $8-$12. STUDENT SAFETY If you are a parent or guardian picking up your child at the end of their training session, be it the junior or senior class, please ensure you are on time or you inform your child that they must stay inside the foyer of the hall until you arrive. There are too many students hovering outside the hall and walking around the carpark waiting to be picked up. Much to our dismay there are still hooligans hanging around the hall at that time of night. If you know you will be late picking up for any reason, please phone or send at text to Stacy….0419 946 661 and she will get a message to the instructors to wait around until you arrive.
