Where students learn creatively and strive for excellence preparing for life-long learning - Kia auaha te ako a ngā ākonga me te whai i te iti kahurangi mōte akoranga tūroa Newsletter Week 5 Term 2 - 2015 Kia Ora everyone & Welcome Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to KNS. Yesterday was a great day with our students in Year 3-8 competing at the KNS Cross Country at Karori Park. Well done to everyone that participated and gave the challenge a go. Thanks to Miss Ross for her organisation. Results of each of the year groups are at the back of the newsletter. Communication @ KNS Our main form of communication with you as parents/caregivers is electronic. We will always endeavour to send information that is only relevant to your child and events that involve them. We highly recommend downloading our school app from Google Play or the App Store on ITunes today. If you downloaded our app last year, a new version is available. If you have had issues with lost alerts or it's been a little temperamental, delete the app and then reload it. When events such as cross country are postponed at late notice we will use the app first to communicate with you, then send an email and place the information on the the school electronic sign. Whanau Teams / House Teams At KNS we believe in a healthy sense of competition and giving things a go. We have in the past had our four house teams competing in relays at school events like swimming sports, cross country and athletics. At these events from now on class and year relays will be the order of the day. House captains have been put aside as we are aiming to foster a culture of shared leadership across all our senior students at KNS. All our Year 7 & 8 students are leaders and are expected to showing others what to do, how to learn and how to contribute to the whole school environment at KNS. At whanau events we have planned for this year, you will see our youngest students interacting and working together with our oldest students. Discussions around our school values of …. E xcellence- I nquiry- C uriosity- I nnovation- R espect - I ntegrity have formed parts of learning conversations, playground discussions and events at KNS. The discussion or respecting the learning environment, our own property and other people's ideas as just three areas we have heard talk about the last week. 21 May 2015 1 Google Apps For Education Tonight is our information session on the Google Apps for Education suite evening beginning at 6:30pm in the school library. A reminder that RSVP would be appreciated for catering purposes. Come along and see what wickedly collaborative tools your children will be using to connect, share and create with. Tomorrow we will be sending home our revised cybersafety agreements. Please take the time to read through the agreements and return the signed portion to the Office. Please feel free to email Kirsten Lang on kirstenl@kelburnnormal.school.nz if you have any questions. Thanks to everyone that came to our music assembly last week. We are making some changes to this event that will be usually taking place at the end of each school term. To enable parents/caregivers to make the time when their children will be performing, we envisage the following. Junior students will begin the assembly moving through to senior students. Our Orchestra will perform first up at 1:30pm, followed by our junior performers. Our Kapa Haka group will perform halfway through. There will be a short break where Mr Mac will get the children to stretch and celebrate what they have viewed. This is an appropriate moment for you to enter or exit assembly if you are unable to attend the entire performance. We will then move on with senior groups and complete the assembly with our bands. If you have toddlers, as with normal assembly, we ask that you place yourself at the seats by the exit doors near the rear of the hall so that if your toddler becomes fidgety or distressed, you can take them outside to calm them down as they can distract our students performing on stage. Your attendance and assistance is greatly appreciated.
