We, the students of Econ7100-M50.2015S at the University of Memphis, would like to
donate a check of $200 to help fund the good causes of your charity.
We have saved collectively about $4000 using a creative-commons online economics
textbook "Livingeconomics" (http://livingeconomics.org) edited by our Professor K. K.
Fung and would like to express our gratitude by collectively donating $1800 to our top
nine favorite charities in his honor.
We have chosen St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Midsouth Food Bank, Make A
Wish, Boys and Girls Club of Memphis, Children Museum of Memphis, Memphis Zoo,
Ronald McDonald House, Literacy Midsouth, and Youth Villages Center as our top nine
charities.
We hope our small donation would encourage other students to be equally generous to
their favorite charities.
We appreciate the good work your charity has done for Memphis and wish you the best
of luck.

Dear Mr. Fung and Students,
Thank you for your generous gift of $200.00 to Ronald McDonald House Charities® of
Memphis. Donations like yours help us provide lodging and supportive services for families
facing serious illness – and provide them with care, love, and strength to face each new day
together.
No family ever pays to stay at Ronald McDonald House of Memphis. Contributions from donors
like you helped us provide stays to over 800 families last year. Through helping us provide a
comfortable “home-away-from-home” you are giving these families a little less worry to carry on
their shoulders, and more opportunity to focus on precious quality time together.
Ronald McDonald House Families describe their experiences the best:
“As a mother Ronald McDonald House means everything to me. The comfort, the safety, knowing
my sons are okay, that we are not alone. That’s probably most important to me, the knowledge
that we are not going through this alone. This house makes me feel like my children are not
spending a year in a hospital. Instead they get to spend time in this most amazing place.”
–Misty, Brayden’s Mom
On behalf of the hundreds of families, like Misty and Brayden, that will stay at Ronald McDonald
House this year, thank you for helping us give the gift of childhood.
Gratefully,
Caron D. Byrd
Executive Director
(The Ronald McDonald House received a charitable contribution of $200.00. We have not
provided you with any goods or services in exchange for this contribution. Please retain this
important document for your records. It is necessary for any federal deduction for this
contribution.)

Dear Professor Fung and the students of ECON7100,
Thank you for your gift of $200.00. One in seven Memphians cannot read this letter. Every day, the Literacy
Mid-South staff, board, and volunteers work to lower this statistic through high-quality literacy instruction,
resourcing educational organizations, and creating shared community experiences to promote lifelong
learning. Please know that this would not be possible without the generosity and support of friends like
you.
Ashley, a student enrolled in our Adult Learning Program, dropped out of high school after enduring years of
bullying due to her low literacy. With the help of her dedicated volunteer tutor, Ashley is
now strengthening her reading comprehension skills and learning how to navigate technology. She says our
Adult Learning Program has changed her life, and she no longer has to rely on others to help her get by.
Literacy has also empowered Ashley to be a more engaged parent. Equipped with the necessary literacy tools,
Ashley is now preparing to take the GED, which will allow her to apply for a promotion at work.
Your gift means so much to Ashley, one of the 50,000 Mid-Southerners—both children and adults—served
by Literacy Mid-South each year. This is life-changing work, and we truly appreciate your support in making
it happen. Your gift is building a better Memphis. Please join us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to see
your gift in action.
This letter is your official receipt and should be kept with your tax records if you plan to deduct your
charitable contributions. No gifts or services were given in exchange for this deduction.

Mr. K. Fung & UM Econ Students
Thank you so much kind friends,
Thank you for your recent gift in the amount of $200 to the Boys & Girls
Clubs of Greater Memphis. Your investment helps make a difference in
the lives of nearly 4,000 kids in the Memphis community by providing an
after-school program that builds a solid foundation for success and the
confidence to know they can achieve anything.
Chelsea Granberry, a 2014 high school graduate who attends the
Buckman Boys & Girls Club has always lived by the motto "hard works
pays off." With both of her parents working hard to provide for her family,
Granberry cleans the house, does the laundry and holds a part-time job to
help provide money for her family as well while maintaining a 3.4 GPA.
“As a member of the Boys & Girls Club, I have learned many valuable lessons
that set a solid foundation in my life that will help in pursuing my future goals.”
Her hard work has paid off. Chelsea received $210,000 in scholarships from
five colleges/universities. Granberry graduated 12th in her class from the City
University Charter School. After graduation, she plans to attend the University
of Western Kentucky where she received in-state tuition (equivalent to a
$43,000 scholarship). She will major in Chemistry with a pre-pharmacy
focus to achieve her life-long goal of becoming a Pharmacist.
It is because of donors like you that we are able to make an impact in the lives
of young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full
potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
We sincerely thank you for making success stories like Chelsea
possible and your commitment to be the difference in the lives of
Memphis kids.
Sincerely,
Larry Pennington
