The wedding was outside at the Meeting House on Solano with many children in attendance. From Vickie: Last month we were blessed to be present at our daughter Jenny’s wedding to Chris Hyde in Austin, TX. We were grateful that Teresa Brown and Rebecca Richman (a bridesmaid) were also able to attend. Rebecca Richman and Teresa Brown The day after the wedding LAS CRUCES RELIGIOUS SOCIETY OF FRIENDS State of the Meeting March, 2015 We continue to be a small group of energetic, conscientious, supportive and occasionally brilliant members and attenders. We’ve had a very slight increase in attendance during the past year, happily graced by some young people and even a welcome infant. We’re blessed with a comfortable meeting house and enjoy the following pattern of get-togethers after meeting for worship: First Sunday: Peace, Social and Environmental Concerns Committee Second Sunday: Potluck Third Sunday: Meeting for Business Fourth Sunday: Spiritual Practice Fifth Sunday: Whatever and Whatnot – including meetings at various places with El Paso friends Following are some of the highlights of the year (in random order): • • • • • • • • • • Display of Peace Crane Memorial at Mesilla Day of the Dead celebration. The Memorial consist of a large number of panels which hold origami cranes, each of which commemorates a member of the armed forces who has been killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Spiritual practice sessions on how we experience and use the Light. Some of our members visited a friend who was interned in an immigration detention center. The creation of our website – www.lascrucesquakers.org. Unauthorized use of the house for lodging by persons who might well have gone undetected for some period of time had they not appropriated some of our furniture, appliances, utensils. Subsequent work on increasing security. Searching for consensus on the question of how to clean the meeting house. Arrived at a hybrid system in which members and attenders clean the house on a regular basis and we pay for a cleaning service every six months or so. Members and attenders have participated in Intermountain Yearly Meeting committee meetings and Gathering, New Mexico Regional Meeting, New Mexico Women’s retreat, Mountain Friends Camp and Friends Peace Team PeaceQuest. Attended Hiroshima Day with Gila Friends in Silver City. Had a weed whacking party in late summer. Group celebrations of Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Eco Friendly Pet Parent Tips °Use biodegradable doggy bags for picking up after your pup or an eco friendly cat litter such as pine pellet little, newspaper litter, corn or wheat based litters. °Choose flea and tick treatments that pose the least health risk for your pets and humans in the household. Weigh risks vs benefits, indoor cats may not require flea and tick prevention. °Making your own treats and food can minimize waste and maximize health for your pets. Make sure to follow a balanced meal plan, cooked diets will require supplementation. ° Manage your pets reproduction with spay/neuter (especially recommended for cats) or other appropriate measures (may be manageable for dogs). ° Dirty fish water may be recycled for watering plants Lucien Miki Webb’s garden in spring
