Officers President Tim Aubry Vice President David Redding Treasurer Dave Cleary Secretary Kim Langer Past President Sue Earman Board of Directors 2013-2015 Mike Cook Donna Gibson Bill Potts Sandy Reinfurt Steve Schmitt 2014-2016 Dan Butler Patrick Fry John Ice Bill Kilgallin Steve McLaughlin The Board is busy getting ready to start another great summer at Lee Graham. The pools are still covered and frozen, but the teams are meeting and coordinating calendars. It won’t be long before swimming, diving, tennis, and water polo are all in full swing. All of this activity goes along with lap swimming, cooking out and enjoying the endless days of summer at Lee Graham. Aided by the boundless energy of Mike Cook, the Board has been busy this winter trying to make things perfect for this season. Mike just received the last shipment of our lawn furniture from the supplier. With this last shipment, all of our strapped lawn furniture has been completely replaced or refurbished over the past three years. Mike is ordering new tables, umbrellas, and stands so the facility will look as impressive as ever. One additional wintertime improvement is the installation of some really nice natural gas grills. Thanks to Mike’s hard work we will no longer be hampered by propane tanks, at least for our main grilling area just off the patio! The grills are a nice improvement. Please enjoy and take care of the new grills! This year we are going to put more of an emphasis on food being kept and eaten on the patio. With that in mind, the tables on the patio will be reserved for people who are there to eat. All too often folks leave their belongings on a table and go off to enjoy the pools or tennis courts. If you are not actively eating, we ask that you remove your belongings from the patio tables so that others can use them to eat. Please be courteous and share the patio tables this summer. The Board meets throughout the year. At our annual meeting in September, we had several volunteers offer ideas to improve our communications. They are setting up a “Member’s Only” Facebook page and Twitter feed. Please look for more details as we get closer to Opening Day so you can keep up with the latest at Lee Graham. We will of course maintain the website and continue our mailed newsletters for those who are not plugged into the Internet. Our swim, dive, tennis, and water polo teams are all gearing up for an exciting season. Our Dolphins will be in competitive divisions where the kids can learn and grow together in the spirit that is Lee Graham. More information is included below from our team representatives, Alice Mar for swimming and Peggy DiScipio for diving. We will also have our first official competitive LG tennis team this year. Christian Canepa will head up all of our tennis activities. Look for details on the tennis team and all of the tennis events for kids and adults on our website and at the registration day. There will be plenty of opportunities for young and old alike to get involved in tennis this season. We are also excited that water polo will be returning to Lee Graham. Board member and water polo enthusiast, Patrick Fry, will run water polo for the kids again this year. It will be a packed season for everyone to enjoy. We are also planning some social events for the entire membership this summer. What is now the Annual Pig Roast will be back, hopefully in July or August. We are looking to add more events to the Summer Calendar including movie nights, splash dances, and anything that we can get folks to help organize. If you have ideas, or just want to help out, please reach out and we’ll get things on the Calendar. Our facilities at Lee Graham continue to be some of the finest in the area. Our membership fees are competitive and are on the low side compared to many clubs in Northern Virginia. We have kept the dues stable while still making some improvements to our facilities. As our fabulous clubhouse reaches 15 years old, it is starting to show some wear. We know we have some minor and major issues that will need to be addressed. We are working with our great facilities team of Bill Kilgallin, Bill Potts, and Curt Nette, to address the needs in stride. Please consider coming out to our annual Clean Up Day on April 25th to help spruce up the facility. Also, remember that this is your club and it takes all of us to pick up and clean up all summer long to keep it looking its very best. As we get ready for summer, please stop by after the clean up to have your picture taken or updated for our entry system. With the help of our corporate administrators, Ann Cook and Melissa Marr, the opening of the 2015 season will go well. Please reach out to them if you have any questions regarding your membership or reserving the clubhouse or pine tree area. Looking forward to a great season with help from everyone in the LG community. Thanks for being a part of it! The Lee Graham Board of Directors www.lgpool.org page 3 Lee-A-Gram Swim Team News Welcome Back Dolphins! Summer 2015 is almost here and it’s time to start thinking about swim team! We have a great season of swimming ahead of us. We are thrilled to have Coach Mike Cook returning as our head coach and Kristi Niklason, Sydney Langer and Christie DeFlumeri returning as assistant coaches. The Dolphins will be competing in Division 4 of the NVSL this summer. Our first A meet will be on June 20th and the season wraps up with All Stars on August 1st. The LG swim team is open to all pool members age 18 and under and is an excellent opportunity to strengthen swimming skills, learn good sportsmanship, be part of a team, make new friends and have a ton of fun. We have a Mini-Dolphin developmental group for our youngest members who are also part of the team. Registration day for the swim, dive, tennis and water polo teams will be May 16th from 4-6pm. The registration form will be available soon and will be posted on our team page of the pool website. Stay tuned for practice times and more information about meets and social events. Lee Graham has one of the largest dive teams in NVSL and we don’t expect things to change in that respect in 2015. As always, we will need all the help we can get from our parent volunteers, so please contact any of the dive reps below if you can lend a hand this summer. It’s time to start getting excited about summer and the 2015 Dive Season at Lee Graham. The Diving Dolphins will be competing in Division 1 again this year with A-meets against: Mansion House, Sideburn Run, Truro, Dunn Loring and Overlee. We are also planning three fun B-meets so that all of our divers can get in on the action. Practices kick off just after Memorial Day and the first A-meet will be on June 23. Our season runs all through July and ends with All Stars in early August. Remember to check the Lee Graham Dive Team web page for updates before the season starts. Practice times, dates for the meets, dive activities, planning meetings, and contact information will be posted. The link to the dive team registration form will be available on the dive team web page as well. Be sure to register early to help us plan for the season, and to receive your early registration discount. If you are not a member of the dive team list serve, please contact Peggy or Scott at the email addresses below and we will be happy to add you. The registration kick-off event for the dive, swim, tennis and water polo teams will be on Saturday, May 16 from 4 - 6 p.m. The Lee Graham Dive Team Reps Peggy DiScipio peggy.discipio@gmail.com Scott Friedman friedBman.scott@gmail.com Tennis News Did you know that Lee Graham now has a Youth Tennis Team? That’s right. After several years of solid growth, this year LG plans on joining the Tyson’s Cup League as an official team. These are all pretty local teams and we plan on playing home and away matches during the season. We have been able to build the tennis program and form a team due to growing member participation and thanks to our relationship with C.O.R.E. Sports and Coach Chris Canepa. This year marks the fifth year together with C.O.R.E. and Coach Chris. In addition to organized team league play this year, our program also now has a Team Representative, pool member David Redding. David will serve as the main point of contact for information and coordination for team members. More Activities Coming! Do you want more clinics or lessons for your kids? Be sure to check out the flyers on the Tennis bulletin board at the Club. Also, the tennis shack has a basket of balls, rollers and a ball machine. Feel free to ask us how to access the shack. We can always use volunteers to organize tennis activities! Be creative and let us know if you have an idea! As a growing team, we are always looking for more youth players of all ages and parent volunteers to join us on the courts. Please stop by to talk with us at the Lee Graham team registration day on Saturday, May 16 from 4-6pm. If you can’t join us that day, contact David Redding at reddingdavidjr@gmail.com with any questions. page 4 Lee-A-Gram Water Polo News Coach Patrick Fry is excited to be back for the second summer of Lee Graham Water Polo.
