Update IAM LL 1943 May 7, 2015 Membership Meeting Agenda This month’s membership meeting will be held at 4:00pm next Thursday, May 14, 2015. There will be a motion to pay the usual and customary bills. Afterwards food and beverages will be provided. If you are a new member and have not been to a meeting yet, this would be a good one to attend. The meeting usually lasts about an hour. The committees will give their reports and then the meeting will be open for new business. This is a time that members can voice their ideas to the executive board and the membership. AK Steel 401k In recent weeks the Company has indicated their desire to change from Fidelity Investments to T. Rowe Price Investments, as the group to administer the 401K Plan. There are other changes proposed: different selections added, some current selections being eliminated, the addition of a Brokerage Link, the addition of a Roth 401K option, as well as retaining our current 401K option. After due consideration, your Executive Board believes these changes will benefit our members therefore they agreed to the company’s proposed changes. We would like to thank everyone that voiced their opinions on this matter. Member’s son signed by the Buccaneers We would like to congratulate our Union brother’s son Donteea Dye Jr. on being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after last week’s NFL Draft. Dye, a Heidelberg University wide receiver from Fairfield, caught 116 passes for 2,298 yards for the orange and black. With outstanding speed, Dye caught 57 passes for 1,022 yards in 10 games as a senior. He scored 14 times for the 8-2 Student Princes. We wish him a successful career in the NFL. Machinists Union Celebrates 127th Birthday IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger issued the following statement on the 127th birthday of the Machinists Union, founded May 5, 1888: “From the cloak of secrecy in an Atlanta railroad pit to a world-renowned labor organization today, the Machinists Union has much to be proud of in its 127 years of fighting for workers. We’re a far cry from the 19 men who began this journey, but IAM founder Tom Talbot would be proud of the dynamic and diverse union we’ve become. “Like the railroads spreading across the country at the time of this union’s beginnings, we quickly grew into a powerful voice for thousands of workers across the North American continent. The brothers and sisters of the IAM’s early years risked everything to preserve this union and give birth to the middle class. “We are the stewards of their sacrifice. Faced with modern day attacks such as anti-worker free trade deals, the proliferation of so-called right-to-work laws, and politicians who will stop at nothing to see unions and workers’ rights obliterated, we have our work cut out for us. Our struggles have changed, but our solidarity remains strong. “Congratulations on another milestone, Machinists, and I look forward to many more ahead.” Yellow Ribbon Collection We would like to thank everyone who worked on and contributed to the YRSC gate collection. With the generous donations from the IAM Eastern Territory and both hourly and salary employees, our Community Services Committee was able to raise $3370.00. AK Steel Contract Books We have received the rest of the contract books from the printer with the corrected page. Your committeemen are in the process of distributing the books to their areas.
