KIDS CLUB Enrichment Classes Spring Session March 23rd – May 15th, 2015 Our spring session of enrichment session for Lower School students offer some of our old favorites as well as some new exciting classes! These classes are designed to enhance the learning and growing opportunities for Maclay Lower School Students. The classes will meet from 3:30-4:30 Monday-Friday one day per week-unless noted. The children will walk over to the dining hall at 3:00, have snack, then their class instructor will pick them up at 3:20 for class. At 4:30 they return to the dining hall where they may be picked up or stay until 6:00. Monday A Heart for Art (1st – 5th) Instructor: Blake Hicks, 4th grade teacher Back by popular demand…just because it’s the end of the school day, doesn’t mean those creative juices have to stop flowing! Mrs. Hicks has art projects in store that will inspire creativity. You will love the treasures that come home with your child! *Cooking with Mr. Jim (K – 5th) *Limit 1o Instructor: Jim Spear, Maclay ‘Marauder Meals’ Chef Back by popular demand our own Chef Jim will be creating some delicious edible fun!!! Kids Club Kids will mix, stir and enjoy the end product!!! Come hang out in the kitchen with Jim and see what’s cooking!!! Tuesday Kids Club Dance (K – 5th) Instructor: Claire Timm, Dance Team Sponsor/3rd Grade Teacher/Genesis Team Members Have fun learning the dances that our own Genesis Dance Team performs at Maclay Activities. Ms. Timm will be dancing the day away with you!!! **Lower School Running Club - Tu & Th (1st – 5th) Instructor: Angie Milford, Qualified USA Triathlon Level 1 Coach; USA Triathlon Youth & Jr. Certified Coach; Certified Youth Fitness Specialist Level 1; USA Track & Field Level 1 Coach. This class will be designed to help meet your child’s own goals—whether for endurance running, preparation in team sports or improved self-confidence. The purpose is to promote a positive experience in physical conditioning and a lifetime love of exercising. Running Club will work on cardiovascular running, speed & agility that is age appropriate. NOTE: This class will be on T and Th Wednesday Basketball with Coach Harris (K -5th) Instructor: Coach Harris, Maclay Varsity Basketball Coach and P.E. Coach Come learn from the best! Coach Harris will be teaching the fundamentals of the game and making it fun all at the same time. Crazy 8’s Math Club (K – 2nd) 3:30-4:30 (3rd – 5th) 4:30-5:30 Instructor: Jillian Purvis, Flagler Graduate w/ Education Degree, KC Counselor Where math meets mischief!!! Crazy 8’s is unlike any math club before! It’s a collection of high-octane math activities that will appeal to all ages. It will offer mischief-making activities that kids love!!! Come join the fun!!! Cool Kids Cook (K – 5th) Instructor: Missy Douglas, FSU Graduate/Education Degree & KC Counselor We will be using the Maclay Kitchen and incorporating literature and the love of baking and eating!!!! We will enjoy recipes from the children’s book Cool Kids Cook by Donna Hay. Don’t miss out this is going to be a blast! Thursday **Lower School Running Club (1st – 5th) see Tuesday Soccer Skills with an element of FUN!!! (K – 5th) Instructor: Coach Christine, former Maclay Soccer Player, Kids Club Counselor Come join Coach Christine as she teaches you the basics of the game to make you the best soccer player you can be!!! Of course, we will play games!!! If you can’t get enough of the game of soccer..this is for you! Friday Kids Club Chess (1st – 5th) Instructors: Members of Maclay Chess Club Sponsor, Kirsten Baggett, HS Math Teacher In Kids Club Chess, kids will learn chess from the experts, members of the Maclay Upper School Chess Club. Kids will learn how to set up the chess board, learn the basic moves, and progress to strategic play, tournament fundamentals, chess etiquette and minitournament with prizes. Kids will be introduced to online tools and apps so they can continue the game of chess after the session ends. Be ready for a game of chess after this class ends!!! Martial Arts at Maclay!!! (K – 5th) Instructor: Nick Troyer, Martial Arts Specialist & Kids Club Counselor WHY Martial Arts? Martial Arts can teach a student how to protect themselves, and emphasis a lifestyle of honor, dignity, discipline and respect! Come have fun!!!!
