Disaster Response for the First Responder
A devastating tornado has just struck your community! Since 90% of Kansas is light frame
construction, first responders will rescue a majority of the affected victims prior to the arrival of
specialized technical rescue teams. What can and should you do to maximize your safety and the
lives of your neighbors? This training will focus on the initial search and rescue operations
conducted by first responders following a large scale disaster. Overall emphasis will include safety
and accountability of first responders and victims; search and rescue operations using equipment
you carry and use every day; as well as an overview of the specialty equipment that is available in
your region and the state of Kansas.
