PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
A warm welcome back to everyone after the March Break. Our students look rested and refreshed
and are excited to return to their learning and to warmer school days!
Prior to the break we enjoyed a full day outside at our Carnaval with games and hot chocolate for all.
Our very first Math Busking Night was a great success thanks to School Council and to our staff and
student volunteers.
Our students from grades 3 to 8 are enhancing their art education with visits from ‘Art for Arts Sake’
while our grade 1 and 2 students have been busy swimming every week at East Bayfield Recreation
Centre.
Our junior and intermediate basketball, volleyball and hockey teams have been practicing and competing at several games and tournaments and we look forward to our rugby season beginning soon.
We have many events happening at Minesing this spring to look forward to including trips for several
of our classes to outdoor venues such as Camp Kitchi, Duntroon, and Ste.
Marie Among the Hurons. Please save the date of April 22nd for our next Parent and child evening
with special guest Dr. Marcia Benjamin.
We are going to have an action-packed Spring!

Math Corner
The Ontario Curriculum: Mathematics has
been designed so that students build their
understanding of mathematics as they progress from K to Grade 12. In designing lessons to help students achieve the curriculum
expectations, teachers employ a balanced
variety of instructional strategies including
problem solving, direct instruction, investigation, assessment, and practice. An important goal of the curriculum is that students be able to apply the mathematics that
they have learned in real-world situations.
To find out more about the Ontario Mathematics
curriculum,
please
go
to
www.mathies.ca. At this website, you will
find a variety of games, learning tools, activities, and additional supports that have been
specifically designed to help students to
achieve the expectations in The Ontario
Curriculum: Mathematics. There is also a
Parents page that will provide more information on how you can help your child to succeed in the mathematics classroom.
