Headteacher: Mr R V Davies 16 April 2015 Dear Parent You will have received in February a Progress Check for your son or daughter, outlining their most recent attainment grades, along with the target grade for each of their chosen areas of study. Students have been working industriously with their subject teachers to complete courses and controlled tasks and to begin preparation for the summer examinations. Students have been setting weekly, and in some cases daily, targets with their Form Tutors as a result of this Progress Check and the Next Steps interview which followed. External summer examinations begin on the morning of Friday 8th May, with GCSE Welsh. Students will need to arrive in good time for all of their examinations, in full school uniform, and ensure that they thoroughly check the venue and seating arrangements for these examinations. It is also essential that they arrive to exams fully prepared with pencils, black pens, a rubber, a ruler and a calculator where appropriate. Some subjects may require additional equipment, for example a protractor in Mathematics and Science. The final day of regular, timetabled lessons will be on Friday 22nd May. During this time, students will be revising with their subject teachers, ensuring that they are absolutely clear on examination technique, being able to seek clarity on any areas that are of concern and gaining important feedback from practice papers. Following Half Term, students will only attend for timetabled examinations and pre-arranged revision sessions. Integrated lessons will continue to be most important during in the next six weeks; the remaining time will be spent focussing on preparation for the examinations. Students will have the opportunity to attend masterclasses for their chosen subjects and to discuss, share and practise revision and examination techniques with their Form Tutor. Some Departments, where examinations are later in the schedule, will be running revision sessions during the main examination period; these times will be discussed with students during lessons and also advertised on the school’s website, Twitter and via constant contact (school email). Students would be expected to be in full school uniform for any revision days during school time. There will also be some revision sessions during the May Half Term. Maths will be running a session on the morning of Wednesday 27th May, from 9 am to 12 noon. We hope to see many students taking up this opportunity. Year 11 students will no doubt at this stage already have in place a revision schedule for the coming weeks; if they are finding it difficult to organise this, websites such as www.getrevising.co.uk/planner or www.revisionworld.co.uk may be able to support them in creating one. During their revision times, it is important that they take planned breaks and spread their time carefully across their different subject areas and the sub-topics within; the starting point may well be their examination timetable, working backwards to ensure that each Old Dixton Road, Monmouth, Monmouthshire NP25 3YT Telephone: 01600 775177 Fax: 01600 775151 E-mail: monmouthcomp@monmouth.schoolsedu.org.uk Website: www.monmouthcomprehensive.org.uk area is given a reasonable amount of time.
