Monterey County Labor Market Snapshot
April 2015
The unemployment rate in the Monterey County was 7.6 percent in April 2015, down from a revised 10.1
percent in March 2015, and below the year-ago estimate of 9.0 percent. This compares with an unadjusted
unemployment rate of 6.1 percent for California and 5.1 percent for the nation during the same period.

April 2015 Unemployment Stats

The number of unemployed is 16,900, down 4,400 from 21,300 in March 2015 and down 2,800
compared to April 2014.

Eight cities throughout Monterey County had unemployment rates at or less than 8.0%; and four cities
had unemployment rates between 10.6% – 15.5%.

Sand City’s unemployment rate of 15.5% is the highest in the County, followed by King City at 15.2%,
Greenfield at 11.5%, Soledad at 10.6% and Salinas at 8.0%. Of the unincorporated areas of the
County, San Lucas’ unemployment rate is the highest at 24.2%, followed by Moss Landing at 22.5%,
San Ardo at 18.9%, Pajaro at 18.7%, Boronda at 16.9% and Castroville at 12.7%.
