What’s happening in the social studies classroom?
Over the next few weeks,
sixth grade students will be
reviewing material learned
throughout the year. They
will be using Today’s Meet,
Kahoot.It, Socrative, and
other websites to review.
Students are finishing up their
last unit in seventh grade social studies. In this unit, students learned about modern
history, including women’s
rights, use of modern technology, and the war on terrorism.
Over the next few weeks, seventh grade students will be
reviewing material learned
throughout the year. They
will be using Today’s Meet,
Kahoot.It, Socrative, and other websites to review.
Eighth grade is wrapping up
this year’s content by studying South Carolina’s emerging economy compared to the
rest of the nation. We are
also reviewing for the annual
PASS test that will be coming
up on May 8th.

Math in the Classrooms:
Sixth grade students are working on
several different projects that incorporate many of the sixth grade standards.
Some students will be working to further their knowledge of seventh grade
standards.
Seventh grade students will continue
studies of equations by learning how
to solve multiple step equations. To
extend their learning, students will
also learn how to graph these equations on the coordinate plane.
Eighth grade students will be completing a few culminating projects
throughout the last month of school. A
movie the ABC’s of Algebra will be a
major project, as well as smaller activities to prepare students for future topics next year.
Algebra 1 students will continue to
review and practice skills until their
end of course test.
ELA Information:
Sixth & Seventh grade students are
working on cursive writing, poetry,
and reading a couple of short stories.
Seventh & Eighth grade students are
finishing a unit based on the Diary of
Anne Frank. We have been studying
informational texts and drama. Students will complete a research project based on the Holocaust. Students are also still participating in
the 20 Book Challenge.
English 1 Honors is currently studying Greek Mythology and The Odyssey. Students are analyzing archetypes present in storytelling, and
Greek roots. Students are continuing
to participate in the 20 Book Challenge with approved AP level books.
Band and Chorus:
Spring Arts Festival will be held on May 19th at 6:00 p.m. in the MSP gymnasium.

Science:
Note from Mrs. Quinn: Although
the bulk of state testing will be
completed on April 30, 2015. the
Science PASS test will be Thursday, May 7, 2015. Please encourage your student to do their best. In
addition, we still have a lot to do in
the science classroom. Our school
year is far from over. Science inquiry will continue through the last
day of the school year and hopefully beyond.
Sixth grade students are currently
reviewing for the Science PASS
test. After the state testing, they
will resume their study of the
plants and will complete a project
and unit test.
Seventh and Eighth grade science
students are working hard to prepare for their PASS assessment.
They will also begin a new technology project.
Seventh grade students have
learned a lot about ecosystems,
building their knowledge gained
from the 5th grade standards.
When we finish the unit after the
Science PASS test, they will have
a better understanding of how their
actions have effects on the world
around them.
Stemology:
Stemology is currently working on statistics in real world. Students will be
creating several different visuals to represent their findings.
Stemology students will complete their product design projects as well as
learning more about computer programming and coding.
Chat & Chew Book Club:
The Chat and Chew book club is reading, The Skin I’m in, by Sharon Flake. Maleeka the main character in the
book suffers every day from the taunts of the other kids in her class. If they're not getting at her about her homemade clothes or her good grades, it's about her dark, black skin. When a new teacher, whose face is blotched
with a startling white patch, starts at their school, Maleeka can see there is bound to be trouble for her too. But
the new teacher's attitude surprises Maleeka. Miss Saunders loves the skin she's in. Can Maleeka learn to do the
same?

FCA
We continue to meet in the media center each Wednesday at 7:20am. Thank you to
Rev. Larry Holland, Rev. Tommy Sparks, and Rev. Ralph Jett for speaking to our students this past month. Anyone who would like to share or speak to this group is welcome. Please contact DeDee Quinn 279-6636 or Sharon Brown 279-6604.
Running Club
We will continue to meet on Mondays, right after
school until 4:15.
Math Connections
Math Connections will continue to fill in any gaps the students may have in mathematics.
Cheerleading:
Cheer practices will begin on Monday, May 11th in the MSP gym. Students will practice on Monday,
May 11th, Tuesday, May 12th, and Wednesday, May 13th from 3:20- 5:00. Try-outs will be on Friday, May 15th directly after school. All practice and try-outs are closed to outside spectators.
