The Glen has agreed to allow us to have lunch at the Glen Club from 1:00- 3:00, which gives us a great view of turn two, where we can watch the Porsches that are on the track before us. Then, it’s our turn and we own the road! We have reserved time for three paced laps on the historic Watkins Glens International Raceway road course. Experience the twists and turns of The Glen from a unique perspective – inside your own car. Must be 18 years of age to drive. NEW THIS YEAR! For those drivers who don’t find 3 laps enough, The Glen has agreed to allow us to have a group run an optional second set of 3 laps for those who want to purchase another ticket. We’re also going to try to keep the groups smaller this year to allow a little more room on the track. DINNER AFTER THUNDEROAD: For those who wish to join us, we will be driving from Watkins Glen to Waterloo, NY to Mac’s Drive-in, a 50’s era drive-in restaurant with authentic car hops and casual food. CAR SHOW 8/1: Car Show is held at The Phelps Community Center, 8 Banta Street, Phelps, NY 14532. Again, this year, we will be opening with a meeting at 10:00 to answers questions and fill you in on any additional plans for the day. Space will be available near your car if you would like to bring a 10x10 popup tent for shade. CRUISER PARADE 8/1: The parade will begin as the Car Show wraps up. We will begin lining cars up in the Phelps Community Center parking lot at about 3:30. We will use back streets to be in position to participate in the traditional Sauerkraut Weekend Parade. We will do the awards before the parade and we will lead the parade to prevent the cars from sitting too long. While everyone wants to show off their muscle, for the safety of everyone involved, please do not spin your tires or burn out. We don’t want to see a good day ruined with a tragic accident. NEW THIS YEAR! The parking lot at the Community Center will remain open so that after the Cruiser Parade, anyone who would like to can return there and watch the rest of the parade before heading home for the day. Who knows? Maybe a picnic will break out or you’ll decide to wander over to the carnival grounds to grab something to eat and enjoy some music. Please drink responsibly and have a designated driver if you’re going to consume alcohol. POKER RUN (Open to any type of Vehicle) 8/2: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) (8) (9) Pre-register for this event. There is one course through the scenic Finger Lakes region. Maps will be available at registration on Saturday or we will email it to you. The course is about 125 miles. You will be expected to follow all normal traffic laws. The map will indicate at least five locations where you must stop and get a stamp on your “passport”. These will become your cards when you return. You may start anytime after 10:00, but must return to the Phelps American Legion by 3:00. If anyone wishes to travel together, we will be leaving from the Phelps Community Center at 10:00. If you plan to leave after 10:00 or travel on your own, be sure you get your map ahead of time as there will not be anyone at the community center after 10:00 am. This will give you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the drive and visit with local sites along the way if you choose. If you want to enjoy a Chicken BBQ when you return, you must pre-order it on your registration form. The Legion sells out every year. When you return, you may purchase additional playing cards if you want to increase your chances. Only natural poker hands qualify. As an example, if you get two ace of spades, only one can be used. 50% of the entry fees will be returned in cash prizes. 25% will go to the Best Overall Hand. 10% to each of the two next best hands and 5% to the overall fourth best hand. In case of a tie, a one-card draw will be held with high card winning. For example, if we have 50 cars participate, we will take in $1,250 in entry fees. $625 goes to charity. $312.50 goes to overall best hand. $125.00 to the two next best hands and $62.50 to the fourth best overall hand.
