SUMMER CLASSES
Nautical Yarn—Page 4
Remember, when you take classes from Nautical Yarn, you are automatically enrolled in the
MerryTime Academy. When you take a class from Nautical Yarn or contribute blankets for the hospital
or mittens, hats, scarves, and sweaters for the Christmas season, you earn MerryTime Academy points
which accumulate from June 1 through May 31 each year. At our annual Fash ‘N Stash Bash (June 12,
2015), MerryTime Academy graduates receive graduation gifts based on the rank they have achieved
during the year. The ranks are Admiral, Captain, Lieutenant, Ensign and Plebe. Beginning a couple of
years ago we added an additional rank, Super Admiral, for people who have been Admirals for five
consecutive years. Super Admirals enjoy dinner with our guest teacher during the Fash N Stash Bash
weekend. We are very proud of our MerryTime Academy and all its graduates.
Melissa Leapman’s classes in June will teach you so much. You can’t go wrong. Melissa is a great
author and acclaimed teacher. In addition to that, she is a super-nice person and a pleasure to know.
We will repeat the Noni Bag class. For less than $50 you can buy a Noni felted bag kit that contains
yarn, pattern, closure, chains, doo-dads, etc. for the project. These cute bags are easy & fun!
We will have continue our skill building projects this summer. The first is Melissa Leapman’s “2 Hip 2
B Square” crocheted afghan. The pattern book consists of 15 squares that you can use in any
combination to complete your baby blanket or afghan. The second project is “The Great American
Afghan”. We have offered this great class in the past and all knitters who completed the 2-square-permonth project improved their knitting skills dramatically. If you want to become a better knitter or
crocheter, please join us for these $FREE classes.
In July, we will offer a 3-session, Learn to Knit class on Tuesday mornings. If you know anyone who
has “always wanted to learn how to knit”, this is the class for them.
Also in July, learn to design your own Aran Sweater (or afghan, hat, scarf or mittens).
Select your favorite Aran motifs and learn how to place them in your design for a beautiful, custom
traditional Aran sweater.
In order to use hand-dyed yarns in the most effective and unusual ways, you need to know your
“Magic Number”. Take this class if you would like to knit, crochet, or weave patterns, such as horizontal
or vertical stripes or argyle patterns using hand-dyed yarns.
If you have always wanted to learn how to work with colors in a myriad of designs, take the Fair Isle
technique “Koigu Cowl” class. Mix and Match colors using Koigu mini-skeinettes for this fun project.
DREAM CLUB
What is DREAM Club? Dream in Color Yarns has designed a subscription project called DREAM Club.
Each month for 6 months (September through February) Dream in Color Yarns sends a unique yarn and
colorway to Nautical Yarn. They don’t disclose the yarns and colors ahead of time – it’s a surprise each
month! The yarns, colors, and prices vary from month to month, but the price is approximately $40 per
month. Included in a Dream Club membership at Nautical Yarn is the yarn, pattern, a class and lunch.
For 2015/16 we will have 2 DREAM Club sessions. In addition to the third Friday mid-day classes we
also will offer an evening Dream Club that will meet from 5:30 PM until 8:30 on the third Thursday
evening of each month. You may attend either session. (If you are interested in Dream Club, please
reserve your spot soon.
