2015 Art-A-Whirl Volunteer Coordinator
Description:
Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA) is currently accepting applications for a
contract seasonal position of Art-A-Whirl Volunteer Coordinator. The Volunteer Coordinator will
assist with volunteer recruitment, management, and guest services coordination efforts for ArtA-Whirl, the largest open studio tour in the country. Art-A-Whirl takes place the third weekend
in May throughout Northeast Minneapolis.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 Coordinate, promote, and fill volunteer shifts, and communicate with all volunteers.
About 100 shifts need to be filled before, during, and after Art-A-Whirl for the two
information booths, trolley, and NEMAA silent auction.
 Work with Art-A-Whirl Silent Auction Intern and Installation Intern to assure volunteer
needs are filled.
 Lead volunteer orientations, organize and develop materials.
 Confirm all volunteer shifts – at sign up and one week reminder prior to shift.
 Coordinate set up and tear down of two outdoor information booths (about 1 mile
apart). Check in on information booths throughout the weekend, fill in shifts as
necessary. Act as main contact for volunteers throughout the weekend. Call on-call
volunteers to fill shifts when necessary. Stock materials for info booths as needed.
 Trolley –set up signage; check in on trolley ride and schedule.
 Assist with placing parking signage throughout NE Arts District
 Assist with printed Artist Directory & Guide distribution efforts.
Qualifications:
 Must be available to assist throughout the week before and after Art-A-Whirl (May 4-22,
2015) – schedule flexible and TBD. Open availability May 13-17 is especially crucial and
required.
 Ability to meet and work at least once a week leading up to Art-A-Whirl at the NEMAA
office in Northeast Minneapolis (during regular office hours, Monday - Friday)
 Experience in working or volunteering at a festival or large event
 Experience managing volunteers
 Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills
 Excellent organizational skills
 Vehicle to assist with responsibilities mentioned above
 Detail-oriented and self-motivated individual who is successful in completing projects by
the deadline
 This position involves lifting – candidate must be able to lift at least 20 pounds
 Access to internet, email, and computer
 Microsoft Office experience required

Education Requirement:
 A major or focus (in progress or attained) in a relevant field, including Volunteer
Management, Event Management, Arts Administration, or Nonprofit Management is
preferred.

Stipend of $800 offered after successful completion of position.
Start Date: March 2015.
Hours per week: Part time, contract position, schedule flexible. Hours will vary, approximately
5-20. Commitment may start off at 5-10 per week for a couple of weeks, but will increase in May
to about 20.
Duration: Minimum of 3 months required – beginning in March through the end of May, 2014.
