EDITOR'S LETTER
What is Fashion? It’s a tough question. The Encarta Dictionary says; the style of dress,
behavior, way of living, or other expression that is popular at present. Well that perfectly
describes what we are attempting to do at WNWN Magazine; expressions that are popular at present or will be soon. When I say “attempting” versus choosing to say, “We are
definitively doing fashion here,” it’s because of the critical mind sets that embody the
fashion world. Who are these people that set the table for what we call “in fashion”? Are
they the barely teenage, heroin skinny models or perhaps the pedantic, flamboyant self
proclaimed experts that think their eye for what’s hot is somehow better than yours?
Whenever I clash with the so called Fashionistas, I always think of the old story of the
Emperors New Clothes. If someone says “It’s fashionable,” loud enough or with some
anointed power; it is. So often, people in the industry belittle others if their tastes in fashion
do not equate. Now, I am not saying that fashion sense is in the eye of the beholder or anything corny like that. I am saying, “Get off your high horses people!” (you know who you
are), and release the stranglehold on an industry that’s synonymous with subjective. The
fact that I like something because when I wear it I think it looks good, should be enough,
right? I guess it goes back to not judging people and accepting them for who they are, or in
this case, what they wear. So “Go on girl,” wear those white jeans in the fall.
With that being said, I am proud to present our WNWN fashion issue. The following
pages consist of some of the things we feel are fashionable. For example you’ll notice that
we decided on a non-traditional cover story for a fashion issue. It’s just a taste of our refreshing style and a good example of why we know Who’s Next, What’s Next. Enjoy!

From his inconspicuous beginnings as an officer enlisted in the Israeli army to his current calling as a fashion designer, Rafi Anteby has towed the fine line between discord
and absolution, creating works that speak to man’s innate longing to connect with a world
that is not of his own making. “I’ve lived many lives in my life,” Anteby said. “I’m totally

superficial endeavor, Anteby hopes that he and others like him will continue to push the
envelope, utilizing the art form’s universal appeal and wide-reaching influence to promote utopian ideals. “It’s a tool that should be used to send a message,” Anteby said. “To

“Model” by definition or at least our interpretation is; one that sets an example. “Citizen”
is broad word. We are not saying you have to be an American or live in a particular area.
Here we are defining the word as being human and “Model Human Being” doesn’t have
the same ring to it. WNWN decided to level the playing field and not judge or quantify a
persons’ contribution to humanity based on the platform that they operate from. Yes we
are an entertainment publication, so we do feature many names and faces that you know,
but the names and faces you don’t know are just as important, and on the following pages
and in the eyes of our creator, they are all equal. All of the following profiles, whether they
are a celebrity or not, deserve to be noticed and hopefully inspire others to do a part in
this mission to heal or help our earth, our brother, sisters, our needed, our sick and our

The Silversun Pickups are over for biscuits and whiskey and a photo shoot. Three of the
four members of this Silverlake-based band pile into frame. Before their fourth arrives,
they urge the photographer to take the incomplete picture. "He doesn't know it yet," Brian
Aubert, the lead singer says of the keyboard player, "but Joe's out of the band so we need
new shots without him." But Joe is far from getting the axe and a frame later he joins his
mates with a chuckle. It is now that I can see that the Silversuns are a tight knit foursome,
self-professed pals, who not only like to play music together, but genuinely enjoy spending
time with one another. Drummer Christopher Guanlao admits "I think we're just really
fortunate to be able to hang out and do what we do...at the end of the day if we don't have a
band, we're still at each other's houses." But they do have a band. And a pretty damn good
one at that. What makes them good is not just their music or their sense of fun but their
state of mind. If you ask them where they got their name, sometimes they'll tell you about
their favorite retail carry-all "Silversun Liquors," and sometimes they'll say "The Silver-

Patrol. They have been on most every late show and late late show you could think of and
they have appeared at music festivals like Coachella. Most recently, they were nominated
for a Woodie Award, a listeners-choice type of award sponsored by a division of MTV.
Something about their camaraderie strikes me as the force behind their success. Not
only are the four band mates friends, but they belong to a collective called The Ship: simply put, it's a group of LA based artists who regularly support each other. It dawns on me
that without their willingness to suck, the members of the Silversun Pickups might never
have left their living rooms and that without real friends and support they may never have
been willing to succeed.

“Beautiful women have been used by artists for centuries. But only in the last few decades, we have totally changed that, and used beautiful women only for commercial
projects. It doesn’t have to be that way, we can still enjoy beauty for art,” she explains.
So Galleani spends her days juxtaposing beautiful women with raw textures and
surreal scenarios to create images that “elicit deeper meanings and questions about
human emotions” through the layering of two or more images, known as photomontage.
Since the early 90’s, Galleani has been intrigued by the effects of layering 35 mm
transparencies. At the start of her career, she spent time painstakingly “cutting and
gluing them together and painting them by hand” to create her desired effect. Fast
forward to 2007, and Galleani is still putting forth that same painstaking effort, but
admits it’s been made easier thanks to new digital capabilities. As for her mission to
bring beauty back into art, and change the belief that “beauty in art is suspect,” I say:

A pivotal character in the sexy new TV series “Gossip Girl,”
Penn Badgley plays Dan Humphrey, a good boy from the
wrong part of town who finds himself drawn into the
saucy “Cruel Intentions” dramas of pampered, privileged
prep schoolers of New York’s Upper East Side.
“My high school wasn’t like this,” says 20-year-old Badgley. “I was a pretty normal
guy, not particularly cool.” This from an accomplished actor who’s paid his dues and now
finds himself in a well deserved lead role of WB’s smoldering new teen drama, Gossip Girl.
Before taking on the role of good-guy Dan, Badgley -- who resides in Los Angeles -- knew
little about Gossip Girl. “I’d just done a Rugby movie Forever Strong and I had this goatee
and a Mohawk. I hadn’t even read any of the Gossip Girl books.”
Today, unless you live in a cave, are without a TV, cell phone or computer, you can’t
miss the GG buzz. Inspired by the popular novels by Cecily Ziegesar and brought to life by
The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz, GG chronicles the lives of rich teens as they sip martinis
in swanky bars, drift through A-list soirees, and engage in betrayal, rivalries and sexy
repartee. A key story line has outsider Dan pursuing GG’s “IT” girl, Serena (Blake Lively)
while his younger sister Jenny (Taylor Momsen) tries desperately to fit in.
How does he feel about the show’s portrayal of teens? “I was initially conflicted about
the materialism, underage drinking and sex,” says Badgley. “But halfway through the
third script, things started to balance out. We deal with issues teens face every day, and
we’re showing repercussions of bad behaviors. I also like the middle class Humphrey fam-

It’s a counterbalance that’s needed to offset the some of the mature scenes in GG. As

bedroom for a spontaneous tryst during a party. Or when cynical, pot-smoking debaucher Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) -- GG’s bad boy – tries to seduce 14-year-old Jenny. “I think
what appealed to me about Dan is that, in many ways, he’s a lot like me—and most guys for
that matter. Though he’s much more socially awkward than me, I can relate to him. He’s
the moral compass of the show.” No doubt about it, Dan’s character is a straight shooter.
And talking to Badgley, you get that same feeling. He’s a guy you want to hang out with.
Especially when he says, “I really miss surfing, skiing and snowboarding.” Or when asked
how his life has changed since GG took off, replies with unaccustomed delight, “Well, in
the last 45 minutes, I was recognized four times, once by a kid 17 or 18 who didn’t look at all
like a guy who would be watching the show. I also get stopped by groups of girls, one even
knew my full name.”
The urge to succeed started early for Badgley. The Baltimore native split his formative
years between Richmond, VA, then Seattle, doing Children’s Theater and voice-over
work. This led to a coveted guest star role on Will & Grace. “I was only12, but it was a
positive first experience working professionally. It kept my confidence up.” Recurring
roles on The Young And The Restless followed. “I was 14, had no formal training, and
on a soap you work every day. It was better than acting classes.” In WB’s comedy series
Do Over. Badgley portrayed a 34-year-old salesman as a 14-year old who had timetripped back to the early ‘80s to re-live his freshman year in high school. “I was the
lead in that show, working every day, learning the craft and the job -- the job being set
lighting, memorizing lines, being in scene on time. It was a shaping experience. Plus, it
paid for my first car -- an Audi -- the day before I turned 16.” He also appeared in WB’s
What I Like About You. “That really kept me busy. You rehearse four days, shoot on
the fifth day—for 86 episodes.” Badgley seems to take all this in stride with the patience
and show biz savvy of a seasoned actor. You sense his passion and commitment, driven
and focused to succeed at anything he takes on. Like finishing high school at 14 and two
years of college at 17. “I probably would have gone into medicine or law, if it weren’t
for the opportunities I was given in acting.”
n FOX’s hit comedy John Tucker Must Die, he played Tucker’s younger brother. “Doing a feature was great, different than serial TV, you have an ending after three months of
shooting—that was nice.” Another feature that brings a smile to his face is Drive-Thru, a
spoof horror film with a serial-killing clown mascot. “I wore braces and long hair. In one
scene, my face was black and made to look like it was cut in half.”
Clearly, half the fun of watching Gossip Girl will be seeing what Dan does next. Will he

As an awkward teenager growing up in the Canadian province of Ontario, Kathleen
Robertson immersed herself in acting, turning to it as an escape, and from its cathartic
introspection drew a sense of personal identity. “I knew from a very young age that it was
something I wanted to do,” Robertson said. “I wasn’t a very outgoing kid, but that was
where I felt the most comfortable. I felt like I was being myself.”
Robertson has made a quiet living as an actress and over the years has amassed an
enduring body of work with small supporting roles in the definitive teenage melodrama,
Beverly Hills, 90210, as well as a breakthrough performance as the battered and broken Thea, in the 2002 independent film XX/XY. As Thea, Robertson oozes sexuality,
breathing life into a seemingly ordinary person, adding layers of complexity with nothing
more than a whisper or hollowed glance. “No one is cookie cutter, everyone is complicated,” Robertson said. “Everyone has wants, dreams, and desires.”
Robertson hopes to infuse this same line of thought into her latest performance as the
iconic Wicked Witch of the West, in the Sci Fi Channel original miniseries Tin Man, a
re-imagining of famed author L. Frank Baum’s beloved Wizard of Oz, premiering in
December. In the show, Robertson plays the sorceress Azkadellia, ruler of the bleak dystopian Outer Zone (Oz) whose crumbling wasteland plays backdrop to a world where
the roles of good and evil aren’t as clearly defined as its predecessor giving even villains
as cruel and ruthless as Azkadellia brief glimpses at their own innate humanity. “That
is the only way you can play a bad person,” Robertson said. “Even Hitler didn’t think he
was bad; people always justify their actions.” Robertson has also taken a crack behind
the scenes, pulling double duty as both executive producer and actress on the quirky and
satirical Independent Film Channel series, The Business. “Comedy is very difficult in
that it works or it doesn’t, and you know immediately on stage if it doesn’t,” Robertson
said of moving to comedy. “A lot of it is polar opposite stuff; it’s not about the minutiae, but
the bigger picture.” But whether it’s comedy, sci-fi or drama, one thing we can count on
is Robertson’s superb ability to deliver her lines with multiple nuances that lets us see her
characters as three-dimensional characters.
