EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN WORSHIP
Sunday of the Passion
March 29, 2015
Palm Sunday
Mission Statement: “We are disciples of Jesus, growing in faith,
serving our community, and connecting others to Christ.”
Welcome to Christ Lutheran Church
If you are a visitor, please know of our delight in having you in our midst. Join with us in
the praise of God and at the Lord’s Table. We have a policy of open communion inviting
all who are members of Christ’s Church to share in his Holy Meal. Children not yet
prepared to receive this sacrament are invited to come forward and receive a blessing. If
you are without a church home, please return and worship with us regularly.
In the time before our service begins, all are encouraged to pray and reflect in order to
make us open to God’s Spirit. For a reflection and meditation resource to use before
service begins, we encourage you to read Martin Luther’s Small Catechism found on pages
1160-1167 in The Evangelical Lutheran Worship Hymnal. Children are always welcome
in our worship. A quiet nursery is available at the back of the sanctuary if parents need a
place to take their young children during the service. A Children’s Bulletin is available.
Our ushers will be glad to assist you.
Please take a moment to sign our attendance book and pass it on. Visitors, please provide
your mailing address so we can acknowledge your presence. Members, please provide any
updates or changes to your contact information.
The Lord’s Supper
The Lutheran Church teaches that in Holy Communion the body and blood of Christ are
truly present in the bread and wine, and that through this gift we receive forgiveness of
sin, life, and salvation. We invite all who are baptized and share this faith to come to the
Lord’s Table and receive this gift. Both wine (dark) and grape juice (light) are offered.
Those unable to come forward should mention this to an usher; the pastor will serve you in
your pew.
INVITE someone to worship with you. All of us know someone who needs the Lord and a
place to worship and serve. In your circle of influence, be an influence for Jesus Christ.
Your invitation will make a world of difference in that person’s life!
Prayer Requests
Anyone with a prayer request, please fill out a red prayer card located in the pews, at the
beginning of the service and hand it to an usher during the Hymn of the Day following the
sermon. The requests will be offered during the prayers in the service. You may also call
the church office at 785-5560 and relay your request to the church secretary, who will
make certain the information gets to the prayer chai

EASTER DAY
10:30 am
THE GATHERING
*If physically able, please stand.
THEME:
Please remember to turn off your cell phones.
Easter has been called, “The Queen of Festivals.” There is no better news to be
heard than the news of Easter. Death has been defeated! Death could not hold
Jesus! The atonement is complete. Sins are forgiven. We are promised eternal
life. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

WELCOME
CALL TO WORSHIP (based on the words of the apostle Paul from 1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
PASTOR: This is the gospel, the good news in which we stand and by which we are
rescued from sin and death.
PEOPLE: Jesus the Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, was
buried, was raised on the third day, and appeared to Cephas, then to the
twelve.
PASTOR: Then he appeared to more than five hundred at one time.
PEOPLE: Then he appeared to James and to all the apostles.
PASTOR: Last of all, he appeared to me.
PEOPLE: And now all the world celebrates that Jesus the Christ is risen from the dead
and the work of the kingdom has begun in the name of the Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit. Amen!

*EASTER CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
*SONG OF CONFESSION
Holy Ground
PASTOR: Holy God of Easter morning, this is holy ground because you are risen and
present with us. This is holy ground because saints and angels are singing
“hallelujah” on this day of resurrection. We are your people who come before you
on this holy ground to confess our sin in the full confidence that you forgive our
sin.
PEOPLE: Almighty, merciful, loving God, we stand here on the edge of eternity and admit
the sin of our human condition that is most evident in our thoughts, words, and
actions; those things we do and fail to do. In the quiet of this Easter morning,
we confess our sin to you.
SONG OF CONFESSION
Holy Ground
PASTOR: We give you thanks and praise for your Easter invitation into the work of your
kingdom among us. We are filled with thanksgiving for your life, death, and
resurrection, which gives us the promise of abundant life that begins now and
continues throughout eternity.
PEOPLE: Jesus, we praise you! Jesus, we worship you!

*THIS IS THE FEAST
5
*THE PRAYER BLESSING
PASTOR:
God of mercy, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for he is alive and
has become the Lord of life. Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we
share with Christ, and help us to grow as your people toward the fullness of
eternal life with you, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives
and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
PEOPLE:
Amen.
THE WORD
THE FIRST LESSON
Isaiah 25:6-9
6On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples
a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines,
of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear.
7And he will destroy on this mountain
the shroud that is cast over all peoples,
the sheet that is spread over all nations;
8he will swallow up death forever.
Then the Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces,
and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth,
for the LORD has spoken.
9It will be said on that day,
Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us.
This is the LORD for whom we have waited;
let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.
The Word of the Lord.
PEOPLE: Thanks be to God.
THE SECOND LESSON
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
Now I would remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I proclaimed to
you, which you in turn received, in which also you stand, 2through which also you are being
saved, if you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you — unless you have come to
believe in vain.
3For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ
died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, 4and that he was buried, and that he
was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, 5and that he appeared to
Cephas, then to the twelve. 6Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and
sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. 7Then he appeared
to James, then to all the apostles. 8Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to
me. 9For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted
the church of God. 10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has
not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them — though it was not I,
but the grace of God that is with me. 11Whether then it was I or they, so we proclaim and so
you have come to believe.

THE GOOD NEWS FOR CHILDREN
*THE GOSPEL ACCLAMATON
*THE GOSPEL
Mark 16: 1-8
The resurrection of Jesus is announced, and the response is one of terror and amazement.
When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome
bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. 2And very early on the first day of the
week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. 3They had been saying to one
another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" 4When they
looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back.
5As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the
right side; and they were alarmed. 6But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed; you are
looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look,
there is the place they laid him. 7But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead
of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you." 8So they went out and fled
from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to
anyone, for they were afraid.

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy
Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died,
and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day, he rose again. He ascended into
heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living
and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH
PASTOR: Hear us, O God.
PEOPLE: Your mercy is great.
*THE PEACE
PASTOR: The peace of the Lord be with you always.
PEOPLE: And also with you.
The congregation is invited to share the Lord’s peace with one another: “Peace be with you.”
THE MEAL
THE OFFERING
*THE OFFERTORY
9
*THE OFFERTORY PRAYER
PASTOR: Let us pray. God of every blessing, may these gifts bring new life to everyone
they touch. May they bring light to someone’s darkness. May they bring hope
in the midst of someone’s despair. We know that you will use these offerings
in the work of your Kingdom. Make us more joyful and thankful every day as
we seek to be your hands and feet in a hurting world, in Jesus’ name.
PEOPLE: Amen.
*HOLY COMMUNION
PASTOR:
PEOPLE:
God declares that we are Easter people!
We are here because Jesus is the good news for all people.
PASTOR:
Jesus Christ takes the bad news of our sin and changes everything by dying
and rising for us.
Now we are part of that new people in Christ, and come here to celebrate his
resurrection presence among us.
God of life, we thank you for your perfect plan to save all humankind from
death. We praise you for the saving action of Jesus Christ and his gift of
forgiveness.
PEOPLE:
PASTOR:
*WORDS OF INSTITUION (In the night in which he was betrayed…)
PASTOR:
As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup we proclaim the Lord’s death
until he comes again.
PEOPLE: Christ has died! Christ is risen! Christ will come again!
PASTOR:
We pray for the world, created and loved by you. God of life, roll away the
stone of anything that stands in the way of your love and mercy reaching
everyone on earth. We pray for the church, that your life and presence would
roll away the stone of anything that stands in the way of proclaiming your good
news to the world.
We pray for those in need, that you would roll away the stones of illness,
prejudice, grief, and neglect and comfort all who suffer in personal loss, pain,
economic hardship or the loss of a job. Especially be close to and comfort the
families who mourn the loss of the loved ones. Hear our private prayers in this
time of silence.
(Silence for reflection)
And now we pray together as you have taught us to pray.
Sung by congregation
*THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our
debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
10

American Heart Association Heart Walk
May 9 at Shelter Cove Park. Once again, Wayne Sebulsky is our Team Captain for Christ Lutheran Church.
Why the Heart Walk? Did you know 1 in 3 Americans have some form of cardiovascular disease and that
heart disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined? We can change these statistics by
joining together to walk and fundraise for Heart Walk. We had such a great time last year as a team in
Bluffton. An online team page to sign up for the walk or to donate is at
http://heartwalk.kintera.org/palmetto/christlutheranchurch. The ID is CLC2015 and the password is
Lutheran. Let’s strive for another great turnout and represent CLC! You can help by walking or donating.
For more information, contact Wayne Sebulsky at 843-715-3287.
CLC Book Club
The April meeting of Book Group will be April 11 at 1:30 pm, at Chris Wilcox's house. Please let her
know if you will attend at Christineewilcox@aol.com or 342-9711. We will be discussing The Boys in
the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown
and Elsa Felten will be our discussion leader. This is a very good read that the men will also enjoy.
 May 9 - Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End by Atul Gawande
 June 13 - The Time Between by Karen White
Musical Fellowship Event!
Mark your calendar now for the first Saturday in May, May 2, and plan to join us in Heinrich’s Hall at
6:30 for a wonderful Christian concert presented by Tim Malchak. Tim Malchak is an American country
music singer/songwriter. He partnered with Dwight Rucker in 1982 to form the country music duo
Malchak & Rucker. They became the first black/white duo in country music history. Tim moved to South
Carolina in 1992. In 2001, he released his first Christian album, Pathway to Glory, on his own Parable
Records. Later that year, he launched Tim Malchak Ministries. To date he has released 7 Christian CD’s.
We encourage you to bring family and friends. A free will offering will be collected at the door.
This event is being sponsored by CLC’s Fellowship Committee.
Family Promise 2015
Christ Lutheran Church has committed to be a support church again for the coming year for All Saints
Episcopal Church. This will be the 8th year in which All Saints will be a host church. The benefit of that
is that they have a well-developed program to serve their guests with meals, shelter and loving care. We
have been asked to seek from our congregation volunteers to cook a meal or be an overnight guest at
the church. The specific weeks are: April 19-26, 2015; August 23-30, 2015; and October 11-18, 2015. We
prayerfully ask you to look at your calendar and choose an evening, hopefully in each time period, in
each time period, in which you can volunteer. Please call Alan Coyne, Christ Lutheran’s coordinator for
Family Promise, for more details. His office number is 843-682-8106; Cell is 843-290-2124; Home is 843681-9747. Email is alan@alancoyne.com.
Fore! Golfers
Our next CLC golf outing will be on Saturday, April 11th. Due to the scheduled HERITAGE GOLF
TOURNMENT, our schedule was moved up one week. Remember, these golf outings are for CLC
members and friends who would like to play golf with our group. We always play a team scramble so
everyone can enjoy the game and assist their team. This month we will be playing the Pinecrest Golf
Course in Bluffton. If you are not already on our golf e-mail list and would like to play, please contact
Nolan Hanson at NhansonN@aol.com. Come join the fun!
Deep Well: Collection Sunday
The first Sunday of each month is our collection Sunday. Please consider all of the ways Deep Well helps
people right here in the Lowcountry and how you can help them. Any and all donations of nonperishable food and household paper goods are greatly appreciated. Paper towels, toilet paper,
Kleenex, cereal and spaghetti sauce are especially needed right now!
2015-2016 School Year Registration
Early registration is now open for friends and family of Christ Lutheran Preschool for the next
school year. CLP enjoyed a full house of children eager to learn this year and spots are limited
for next year. If you know of anyone with children of preschool age and would like to know more
about our state accredited program, have them contact Nancy Conder at 843-785-6570.
Birdies for Charity
The preschool has kicked off its Birdies for Charity fundraiser. Last year with the generous
support of our congregation and parents, it was the most successful fundraiser in our history.
We hope to surpass this year’s goal as well. It only takes a penny! Pledge forms will be in the
narthex. They can be turned in to the office, preschool or you can pledge on line at:
http://www.heritageclassicfoundation.com/donate-now/
(Be sure to designate Christ Lutheran Preschool as your charity choice)
