Advances in computer processing power, data transfer speeds, advances in software, and cloud storage solutions have enabled the use of digital images for a wide variety of purposes in pathology. As a result, pathology departments as well as histology laboratories have begun utilizing digital imaging for simple tasks (e.g. image archiving) and more complex undertakings (e.g. telepathology, image analysis). The objective of this talk is to provide an overview of current applications, capabilities and limitations of WSI and review some of the challenges and barriers to adoption of WSI. Lunch 12:00-1:00 pm (11:00 -12:00 pm) “Peace, Love and Happiness in GI Histology.” 1 CMLE Limited to 40 (8 – 9:00 am) “Chill Out, It’s Just Mohs” ( (11:00 -12:00 pm) “Multidisciplinary Biomarker-Driven Approaches to Metastatic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Focus on the Patient 1 CMLE Limited to 40 Journey” Tisha Farrell, D.O., Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Pathology, The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center; Laboratory Medical Director, Knox Community Hospital A look into a variety of histologic artifacts, understanding why pathologists may want re-cuts, levels or tissue rotation and identifying immunohistochemical staining and molecular testing in gastrointestinal pathology. Lecture 14 (1:00 - 4:15 pm) 3 CMLE Limited to 80 “Quality and Compliance in Surgical Pathology Billing” Bonnie Whitaker, MT(HEW), HT(ASCP)QIHC, AP Operations Director, The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, Department of Pathology This lecture will discuss ways of ensuring accuracy and compliance in billing surgical pathology specimens. Monitoring the billing process, and Quality statistics that might be beneficial will also be discussed . “CPT Coding Basics in Surgical Pathology ” Debra Zynger, M.D., Associate Professor, Department of Pathology Director, Division of Genitourinary Pathology, The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, Department of Pathology As healthcare professionals are being asked to do more and more, with ever-shrinking budgets, it is particularly important that we bill all of our services accurately. The aim is to bill for every penny that we can, without ever overbilling for a service. This talk will take a look at surgical pathology specimens and how to deal with “gray areas” .
