The Optimist Board met this past week on Thursday, May 14th.
Our Treasurer, Brandon Glascock, provided Financial Reports,
including a comparison with last year finances. Last year at this
point in the year, the Ashland Optimists were in the hole by almost
$2,500. This year, we have over $21,000 in the positive. What a
reason to be Optimists!
We talked about the possibility of hosting the youth portion of the
Boone County Fair next year, since the Fair Grounds (Event
Center) will not be available. We are looking at coordinating with
the Cedar Creek Saddle Club to provide space, but we will be in
competition with other communities in Boone County.
There will be a kitchen meeting tonight at 8:00 p.m. to try to work
out details for cooking, dessert, and prep before Bingo.
There will be cleaning and painting at the pool this week in
preparation for the Open House, which will be held this coming
Wed. May 20th. The pool will actually open Memorial Day
weekend, with a spray station over near the previous kiddie's pool
area, thanks to a grant from Boone Electric Community Trust and
Ernie Wren who wrote the grant application.
We had 123 players on Friday night at Bingo. Next week, we will
be giving away $1,199, which could lead to large crowds.
Breakfast this morning was provided by Cheryl and Connie Field,
with help from my mother and me.
Our speaker this morning was Sylvia Donnelly from the Hartsburg
Grand. The Hartsburg Grand was built in 1897 and has been
completely renovated. Also, Sylvia and her business partner have
purchased the former “Muddy River” Tavern which likely makes
them the largest property owners in Hartsburg. There are a ton of
activities happening around the Grand. Their goal is to be a
community and family focused business. On June 5th and 6th they
will have a grand opening with plays and plenty of food. The
charity which will benefit from the grand opening is the “Stream
Team”.
