MARCH 29th - Our Lady Star of the Sea

Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church
Dear OLSS Parishioners,
I consider myself a Believer, but I can't believe that it is Palm Sunday already! Lent has flown by and now
we are entering Holy Week. We call it that because it is the Holiest week of the year for Christians, since
the word Holy means other or different, this week is different from any other week in the year, or it should
be.
Remembering how much God loves us is central to a deepening relationship with Christ. If I don't
appreciate what His love for us cost Him, then I probably am not going to respond to Him with the love
and affection that His love deserves. That He would want to remain with us and so He gave us His Body in
Holy Communion; that He is willing to die for our sinfulness so that we can be free and then allows
Himself to be crucified on our behalf. These are great witnesses to His selfless love.
Then, He rises and conquers death and fear, the power of life overcoming the slavery of sin. Easter, the
greatest day in the history of humankind. We hopefully want to spend some time this week entering into
the spirit that will make it Holy for us and for those we love. The Schedule for the Services offered this
week are in this bulletin and all are invited to spend some special time with God, our greatest fan and lover
as we remember the price He paid for our freedom.
Msgr. Mike

Hungering for Seeds of Home
We follow Jesus this week on our Lenten journey as
he enters into Jerusalem, a community he knew
well. CRS Rice Bowl asks us, too, to prayerfully
enter into our own communities to find those
who are hungry and thirsty, who need our help.
How does our Lenten journey motivate us to
serve those we encounter in our daily lives?

The Seahawk Report
Eighth Graders have been very busy this past
quarter. We have been blessed with two new
students which brings our number to 21. In
Religion they have been preparing for their
Confirmation by completing their “Red Books”. They are
also presenting group projects on the Sacraments and have
been meeting with their 2nd Grade Buddies to assist them in
preparing for First Penance and First Communion. In
Language Arts they have each selected a topic of interest
and are spending much time gathering facts and writing a
research paper. Various topics include “Living with
Asperger’s, “The History of Guitars”, and “How the
Holocaust affected Children”. I can’t wait to read them. In
Science students are investigating a topic and will be
presenting projects at the Science Fair in April. In Social
Studies 8th Graders have been “Unpacking The
Constitution”. Lastly, but probably most important to them,
8th Graders are preparing for Graduation in June! Students
will be attending 8 different High Schools! I wish them
well but I will miss them.

Hot Cross Buns - a European staple on Good Friday, are made of sweet, spiced dough with icing shaped in the
form of a cross. They were commonly distributed to the poor and were even considered a blessing against sickness and
house fires. In some locales they were baked and distributed the day before Ash Wednesday, a kind of last celebration before the fast.
With such a characteristic and with such a holy association, some believed this humble bun qualified as a charm against evil, and it
was superstitiously hung in the house.
