Course Background
Big Data Analytics is currently a hot topic being discussed on many platforms.
Understanding Big Data Analytics means understanding what is Big Data and Big Data
Analysis, which form the foundation of Big Data Analytics. What are the components of
the said Big Data Analytics System. Is a Big Data Analytics System truly useful? How can
we truly benefit from a Big Data Analytics System?
From the understanding of what Big Data Analytics is, the question of building a
successful Big Data Analytics System will be addressed.
To support the understanding of Big Data Analytics, the presentations will be supported
by discussions and demonstration of a possible Data Analytics System.
Course Rationale
Big Data Analytics is touted to be a technology that has the capability to transform
organisations. As organisations become more dependent on increasingly accurate
information, Big Data Analytics system could provide the necessary information derived
the massive information that is readily available today.
But Systems are always as good as they are designed for. It is therefore very important
that Data Analytics systems are properly designed and implemented for the intended
use.
This course aims to cover both aspects of the understanding and the design and
implementation of Data Analytics Systems.
Course Objectives
The course aims to help participants to:
 Understand what Big Data Analytics is
 Understand the components necessary to build a Big Data Analytics System;
 Analyze the requirements for a Big Data Analytics System for a departmental/
organisational requirements
 Formulate an effective strategy to implement a successful Data analytics project
Course Synopsis
The three-days course will attempt to impart both an understanding of what a Big Data
Analytics System is and the basic blocks of such a system. The course then discusses the
Use of the system in an organisation and ends with a discussion on how to implement a
successful Big Data Analytics project
To complement the presentations and to improve the level of appreciation, group
discussions and demonstration of a possible Data Analytics System will be organised in
the afternoon sessions.

The course will be held over 3 days from 6 to 8 October, 2015 in Laguna Redang Island
Resort, Terengganu.
Who to Attend
The course is targeted at medium and high level officials from ministry, public research
institutions, universities, industry and NGOs.
Modes of Delivery
The training course will be delivered by using the following methods:

Series of lectures.

The training workshop will be conducted in English.
Course Convener
Prof. Zamri Mohamed is presently a professor and was the former
Dean at the Perdana School of Science, Technology and Innovation
Policy, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Graduated as an engineer, Prof.
Zamri has since led the Computer Science Faculty, the University’s
Computer Centre and also the K-Economy Research Alliance at UTM.
Prof. Zamri has given lectures in numerous training programs at
various levels in the area of ICT, both within and outside UTM.
Prof Zamri has also been member of various committees and task forces at the university, state
and national levels. He has also undertaken several research and consultancies on topics of his
interest.
Since the 1990s, Prof Zamri has been involved in National ICT agenda and policies. More
recently, since the establishment of the Perdana School, he has been fully involved in teaching,
researching and consulting in the area of STI and STI-based Policies .
