PROJECT ASSISTANT
EXEMPT OPPORTUNITY*
Annual Salary: $45,956.88 to $67,191.84
Background: Since its establishment in 1999, the Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood
Empowerment (DONE) has grown into the nation’s largest and most innovative initiative in civic
engagement and citizen-based government. Through a network of 95 Neighborhood Councils,
the City promotes public participation in government and works to improve government
responsiveness to local concerns.
Duties: Project Assistants will report to the Outreach and Elections Senior Project Coordinator
and will be responsible for conducting Neighborhood Council elections and outreach during
even number years and Neighborhood Council selections (non-secret election voting process of
board members) and outreach during odd years. In addition, the duties include, but are not
limited to the following: developing web-based training, educational information, and the
Department’s cache of web-based tools and services to enhance online outreach and
communication tools and services; providing technical expertise, organizational and logistical
support to Neighborhood Councils; providing training and orientation to Neighborhood Council
members on Neighborhood Council outreach and communication subject matters; and
interfacing with representatives from the Office of the Mayor, City Council, City Departments,
Commissions and agencies of the City of Los Angeles who wish to outreach and collaborate
with Neighborhood Councils.
Requirements: A minimum of two years of experience (paid or unpaid) working in web design,
social media and online database systems.
Preferred Requirements: A minimum of two years of experience (paid or unpaid) working with
Neighborhood Councils in the areas of Neighborhood Council elections and outreach.
