a planned budget of EUR 2.3 billion.
• 3rd Health Programme
• Consummer Programme
7
Horizon 2020 for SMEs
Industrial Leadership programme section consists
of three specific objectives:
• „Leadership in enabling and industrial technologies”
• „Access to risk finance”
• „Innovations in SMEs”
will provide SME-tailored support to stimulate all forms of innovation
in SMEs, targeting those with the potential to grow and
internationalise across the single market and beyond.

Possibilities of Cooperation
SMEs - R&D units:
• Commissioned tasks (research) in the frame of
phases: I (technical and market feasibility) and
II (demonstration activities)
• Participation in consortia formed for the purpose of
research and development projects
• Exchange and mobility of researchers and
entrepreneurs (Marie Skłodowska – Curie actions)

9
International Programmes
• European Research Area (ERA)
ERA is based on the 27 national research systems of the Member
States funded from national tax revenues.
The structure has been concentrated on multinational cooperation in
the fields of medical, environmental, industrial, and socioeconomic
research. Example of initiative: Cornet
• EUREKA
is an intergovernmental network launched in 1985, to support
market-oriented R&D and innovation projects by industry, research
centres and universities across all technological sectors. It is
composed of 41 members, including the European Union
represented by the Commission.
10
International Programs
• EUROSTARS
Joint initiative between EUREKA and the European
Commission specifically dedicated to R&D performing
SMEs.
The Eurostars Programme specifically enables
R&D-performing SMEs to improve performance through
its support of ‘in-house’ research; it also enables
companies to develop closer working relationships with
the European research community.

Examples of IPS cooperation with SMEs
• Project FOOTyWEAR - “Innovative Footwear Design based on
biomechanical parameters” - CORNET Initiative
• Project “Plasma technology of ecological gluing elastomers on an
industrial scale” - Applied Research Programme of the National
Centre for Research and Development
• Project ECOFASTDYE - „Design of sheepskin dyeing process
from fast reproducing of colors and removal of color from
wastewater” - EUREKA
• Project BIO-LEATHER - ”Industrial biotechnology for production
of antiseptic leathers dyed with natural extracts” - ERA IB
• Project COLL-RAPE - New treatment for rape seeds based on
collagen hydrolysates, in order to increase the drought resistance
of the rape seedling” - EUREKA

Project FOOTyWEAR
In this project, different aspects that are essential in the
prevention of foot problems and in innovative shoe design, was
examined:
• biomechanical aspects - by mapping and optimizing the current
methods for biomechanic foot analysis and determination of
foot types,
• physiological aspects - to optimize shoe materials hygienically,
in comfort and in safety,
• the results above was combined and applied to a specific case:
the diabetic foot.

„Plasma technology of ecological gluing
elastomers on an industrial scale”
• Consortium of scientific unit (PŁ), research and
development institute (IPS) and shoe company
(Wojas SA).
• The aim of the project is to implement
environmentally
clean
method
of
surface
preparation for bonding thermoplastic elastomers.
• The proposed method is known to be "green
chemistry" and uses for elastomers surface
treatment low – pressure cold plasma.
16
„Plasma technology of ecological gluing
elastomers on an industrial scale”
The benefits of using the proposed method of plasma
processing for rubber and thermoplastic rubber used for soles
are as following:
• total elimination from the technological process harmful chemicals,
organic solvents and flammable solvents;
• improving working conditions and the whole production cycle in
terms of environmental protection;
• getting adhesive layer applied shoe upper-sole strength higher
than that obtained by wet-chemical treatment;
• automate manual processes, providing complete reproducibility in
the procedures;
• the possibility of reducing the cast of workers on the assembly
line.

INSTITUTE OF LEATHER INDUSTRY
• Executives of the Institute are certified in PRINCE2®
(PRojects IN Controlled Environments) - a method for
the management of all types of projects and is
practiced worldwide.
• Institute has experience in managing of European
Union projects
