The second full week of April is Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week. The men and women of Animal Control risk their health and safety to ensure the protection of both people and animals. Animal Control officers face difficult challenges in rescuing animals in danger, protecting people from dangerous animals, taking the lead in pet evacuations, and organizing the yearly rabies vaccinations. Their hard work and dedication is acknowledged by Plaquemines Parish Government. We can help our Animal Control officers by keeping our pets safe at home, spaying/neutering our pets, and ensuring our pets are updated on vaccinations, especially against rabies. On April 21, 2015, Animal Control Officer Derrick Encalade, with the assistance of Small Animal Warden Paige Furbush (not pictured) and Severn Trent Environmental (not pictured) enters a culvert to respond to a call for a possible dog. Upon further inspection, there was no indication of a dog in the culvert.
