The British Soap Awards 2015
Thursday 21st May, 8pm
Phillip Schofield hosts The British Soap Awards
2015 from Manchester’s Palace Theatre. The event
promises to be the most exciting and glamorous
awards night in the showbiz calendar. Every year
Britain’s soaps make us laugh, cry and gasp in
amazement in equal measure. This year has been
no exception, with the revelation of Lucy Beale’s
killer in EastEnders, Steve McDonald’s depression
storyline in Coronation Street, Katie Sugden’s
untimely death in Emmerdale, a horrific train crash
in Hollyoaks and a spy amongst the ranks in
Doctors. The British Soap Awards honour the very
best work in Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, with the
enthusiastic support of their casts and crews in the audience. As ever, the trophies are presented by
some of the entertainment world’s brightest and most famous faces. Viewers can find out who they
have voted Best Actor and Actress, and who will be receiving this year’s prestigious Outstanding
Achievement awards. The main event of the evening is the coveted title of Best British Soap. Other
hotly contested awards handed out on the night include Best Dramatic Performance, Best Comedy
Performance, Best Newcomer, Scene of the Year, Best Storyline, Best Single Episode and Best On
Screen Partnership.

Man & Beast with Martin Clunes
Friday 22nd May, 9pm
In the second half of this two-part documentary, Martin Clunes continues
his journey around the world to investigate the extraordinary relationship
between man and beast. Martin examines how pet ownership in Japan is
increasing, with more than 24 million cats and dogs sharing the
pavements of the country’s already crowded cities. He hears about the
story of Hachiko, an Japanese Akita who waited every evening for his
master to come off the train from work. When his owner died, Hachiko
continued to meet the evening train for nine years. His loyalty so touched
the public that they erected a statue to him in Tokyo. In Nepal, Martin
visits a snake charmer, overcoming his fear of the creatures. Although
now banned in the country, the custom persists in rural communities.
Martin learns that charming the reptiles with pipes is a total illusion since
snakes are deaf – they are simply terrified! In Thailand, he meets the
owners of small birds called bubuls who place bets with each other to
see whose bird can sing the loudest. In Bangkok, he watches how the
thread is teased out of silkworms in an activity which has not changed
for thousands of years. Back in Britain, he joins a group of smartly
dressed men and takes part in the ancient custom of swan-upping on the Thames. He meets the
Queen’s swan marker David Barber (pictured left), who is responsible for collecting information and
ringing the birds as proof that they belong to the sovereign.
Scammers
Monday 18th May, 9pm
Jamie Theakston narrates this brand new
documentary looking at the dramatic increase in
people in the UK being conned and swindled by
all kinds of new technology. Britain is under
siege from scammers who are using cyberspace
to rob people blind. They might not use a
crowbar or wear a balaclava to break into our
homes or steal our lives, but scamming is
another form of burglary and it is out of control.
A vast number of crimes in the UK involve some
form of cyber criminal, and the Government
is putting millions of pounds into new
specialist police units to identify and catch
these 21st-century crooks. It is estimated
that scamming now costs the UK economy
at least £27 billion a year – and this figure
is just based on the reported crimes. This
documentary investigates the problem and
reveals some of the heart-rending stories of
victims who have fallen foul of the
scammers. These include a woman who fell
for a romance scam which cost her
£180,000 and a teenager who committed
suicide after being conned by a crook
pretending to be the police.

Wild Ireland
Monday 18th May, 8pm
Presenter Christine Bleakley– herself originally from
County Down – presents the series in which she drives,
climbs, walks and swims her way along the longest coastal
route in the world, Ireland’s 1500-mile Wild Atlantic Way.
The route passes through counties and three provinces,
stretching from County Donegal’s Inishowen Peninsula to
Kinsale in County Cork on the Celtic Sea coast. Along the
way there are places and attractions which have been
points of interest and pilgrimage for travellers over the
generations. Lough Swilly was the departure point for
many Irish people leaving for the New World during the great famine of 1847. Originally built by the
Normans, Doe Castle became a base for a British garrison during the nineteenth century. Bundoran
has become a destination for surfers in recent years – for those brave enough to face the waves
that crash in off the ocean. At Streedagh beach, there are shipwrecks left behind by the Spanish
Armada on their ill-fated attempt to reach home in 1588.In the final episode in the series, Christine
travels across the open ocean in Ireland's only cable car. On Mizen Head, she explores the
treacherous waters around Ireland’s most south westerly point and joins the coastguard for the day.
As her journey along the longest continuous coastal route in the world comes to an end, Christine
casts her line for one more Irish passion – fishing.

Britain’s Got Talent
16th - 22nd
May 2015
Saturday 16th May, 8pm
Ant and Dec continue to present the ninth exciting series
of Britain's biggest talent search. The current judging
panel of comedian David Walliams, singer Alesha Dixon,
actress Amanda Holden and talent show supremo
Simon Cowell have returned for the fourth year running,
hoping to uncover the next superstar. Auditions have
been held across the country in a bid to find a variety
act fit for royalty and worthy of a big cash prize, with the
judges attending performances in Edinburgh,
Manchester, Birmingham and London. Previous
contestants, including singers Paul Potts and Susan
Boyle, dog act Ashleigh and Pudsey and last year’s
winners Collabro, have gone on to achieve success across the globe. The judges provide as much
entertainment as the acts themselves as they debate the talent and entertainment value of each
wannabe superstar. None of the hopefuls wish to hear the dreaded sound of the judges' buzzers,
but if all four judges push them, the audition will be cut short and the dream will be over. This year
sees the return of the golden buzzer, which enables each judge – plus Ant and Dec – to send one
act straight through to the live semi-finals regardless of the other judges’ opinions. Ant and Dec wait
in the wings to provide support, either joining in the celebrations or offering a shoulder to cry on, as
the acts exit the stage. Which of the acts will be returning for another performance and the chance
to take the stage at this year's Royal Variety Show, as well as pocketing the £250,000 prize?

Perspectives: The Great American Love
Song with Nicky Campbell
Sunday 17th May, 10.15pm
Nicky Campbell travels to Manhattan to explore his lifelong
musical passion for the golden age of song-writing when the
music of packed Broadway theatres fused with the sounds of
Harlem’s raunchy jazz clubs. Nicky delves into six timeless
love songs that map every contour of the human heart in just
three minutes. In celebrating the dazzling lyrics,
unforgettable tunes and thrilling rhythms, he also discovers
the troubled geniuses who wrote them – from George
Gershwin, the gifted prodigy who was the son of Jewish
immigrants, to Fats Waller, Harlem’s larger-than-life lothario,
and Cole Porter, a sparkling socialite with a secret double
life. Nicky’s six songs are Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart’s Manhattan, George and Ira
Gershwin’s haunting torch song The Man I Love, and Fats Waller’s playful Ain’t Misbehavin’. Cole
Porter’s Night and Day is a classic of passion beneath the surface. Jerome Kern’s The Way You
Look Tonight, with lyrics by Dorothy Fields, was written for Fred Astaire to serenade Ginger Rogers.
Finally, The Night We Called it a Day was written for Frank Sinatra by Matt Dennis and Tom Adair.
Along the way Nicky meets a colourful cast of characters including singer/songwriter Annie Lennox
(pictured right), hip-hop artist Baba Brinkman, singer Michael Feinstein, who was a close friend of
Ira Gershwin, jazz singer and Fats Waller enthusiast Michael Mwenso, Dorothy Fields’s son David
Lahm, and 81-year-old cabaret singer Marti Stevens, a close friend of the great Cole Porter.
Celebrity Squares
Sunday 17th May, 7.15pm
The classic comedy game
show continues its second
series on ITV this week
following a successful revival in
2014. Based on the famous
American game show
Hollywood Squares, this is the
show’s third UK incarnation,
with the original series having
aired between 1975 and 1979

and 1997, both hosted by the
late, great Bob Monkhouse.
The host this time around is
actor and presenter Warwick
Davis, also seen recently on
ITV with the second outing of
his Weekend Escapes series.
The idea of the
game is simple –
two ‘civilian’
contestants play
a giant version
of noughts and
crosses, with
celebrity guests
housed in nine
square boxes.
The contestants
decide whether
ITV.com
their chosen celebrity has
answered each question
correctly, gaining a square for
each correct decision until one
of them has three squares in a
row or five squares in total, to
bank money and win the round.
The contestant who wins the
most prize money then has the
chance to play for a £25,000
jackpot. In the fifth show,
Warwick is joined by Scissor
Sisters singer Ana Matronic,
Dragons Den panellist Duncan
Bannatyne, comedians Sarah
Millican, Joe Lycett, Milton
Jones and Melvin Odoom,
presenters Tess Daly and
Rickie Haywood Williams and
resident comedians Tim Vine
and Joe Wilkinson.

ITVBe continues the second series of

MotoGP Highlights *
Monday 18th May, 8pm
ITV4 continues its coverage
of this season’s
motorcycling MotoGP with
highlights of the fifth round
from Le Mans. This year’s
season is shaping up very
differently to 2014, when
reigning champion Marc
Marquez ran away with the
championship in the
opening few rounds. The
Spanish rider had a
nightmare start to his 2015 campaign in Qatar
but bounced back to win the next round in
Texas. He currently lies in fourth place in the
standings with the Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino
Rossi leading following his win in Argentina, his
second of the season so far. Both drivers were
impressive in the last round in Spain, Marquez
coming second with Rossi third behind Movistar
Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo. This sets things up
Code of a Killer
nicely for this week’s Monster Energy Grand Prix
de France in Le Mans. Marquez won the
corresponding round last year with Rossi in
second place. The great Italian rider, a ninetimes world champion, will be hoping to turn the
tables on his young rival this year. The 4.2 km
circuit is a tight track dominated by first-gear
corners, placing the emphasis on a mix of late
breaking and hard acceleration.
Saturday 16th May, from 9pm
Showing this week on ITV Encore, this two-part drama from the director of Broadchurch and the
producers of Line of Duty stars David Threlfall and John Simm. Based on a true story, the film also
features Lorcan Cranitch, Robert Glenister, Anna Madeley, Paul Copley and Andrew Tiernan. In
1984, Dr Alec Jeffreys (Simm), a University of Leicester scientist, unlocks a remarkable technique
which can read every single human being’s unique DNA fingerprint. Just four miles away, tenacious
detective DCS David Baker (David Threlfall) is leading the search for
the murderer of a local schoolgirl, 15-year-old Lynda Mann. Baker has
his suspicions, but cannot prove anything. Two years later, another
15-year-old schoolgirl, Dawn Ashworth, is murdered. A local teenager
is arrested and confesses to the second murder but vehemently
denies having had anything to do with the first. Convinced that the
same man murdered both girls, DCS Baker turns to Dr Jeffreys,
whose analysis of the DNA evidence yields the worst imaginable result
– the teenager who confessed in innocent. Although Jeffreys’ test has
so far only been used in immigration and paternity cases, Baker
proposes the extraordinary idea of testing the blood of every man in
the area in order to seek a match. The Home Office eventually agree
to the test being used, but only if the mass screening involved is
voluntary. Can the two men convince their opponents and persuade
over 5,000 men to voluntarily take the blood test?

Wednesday 20th May, 10pm
The American crime drama series about two detectives
investigating the murder of a boy in a small, tightly-knit coastal
town, based on Broadchurch and also starring David Tennant as
Detective Emmett Carver with Anna Gunn as Detective Ellie
Miller, continues. In episode eight, as Tom (Jack Irvine) is found,
safe but with some minor cuts from falling off his bicycle, he tells
his parents and Carver that he was looking for Pierson after he
saw the name in Ellie's casebook and wanted to ask about
Danny. After interrogating Pierson, Carver is told by Mark
(Michael Pena) about Paul's (Kevin Rankin) obsession with Beth (Virginia Kull) – and that he was
spotted at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. Beth meets the mother of the child victim in the
Rosemont case, who is now addicted to alcohol and pills and sleeps a lot. This deeply affects Beth,
who later decides to keep her unborn child. Carver speaks with Paul, who feels that the town needs
him again in order to cope. He also suggests that Carver will become the next outcast because the
townsfolk get more suspicious every day that he fails to find the killer. Susan (Jacki Weaver) gives
Danny's skateboard to Tom before going to the newspaper office, where Kathy (Alisen Down)
informs her that her past is now known. She is arrested but will not talk until they find her dog,
which Vince (Stephen Louis Grush) has stolen. Paul finds Tom trying to destroy his laptop. When it
is reported that a flashlight has been seen inside the beach house, Ellie and Carver investigate.
They set off in pursuit of the intruder, but are forced to stop when Carver collapses.
