Background:
Swimming Queensland (SQ) is seeking a Club and Coach Development Officer to support and
strengthen club swimming. Core activities of the role include club and coach development to
achieve sustainable membership growth and improved athletic performance.
SQ is the peak body for competitive swimming in Queensland, with 270 swimming clubs and 15,000
swimming members. Its office is located at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre, Chandler. SQ is assisted
in the administration of the sport by seven Regional Swimming Associations, and is a member
association of Swimming Australia.
The Club and Coach Development Officer will work as part of a national network of development
officers to grow and enhance the sport of swimming. In particular, they will work with clubs and
coaches to optimize the club experience for the swimmer, to strengthen clubs’ financial status
through membership growth, to help swimmers achieve their athletic potential, and to ensure that
Queensland remains a world force in competition.
Duties
The Club and Coach Development Officer will:

Serve as a multifaceted field service consultant for coaches and swim clubs in the development
of the sport of swimming.

Provide technical and sport science support to coaches with the goal of enhancing athlete
performance.

Facilitate education and support to clubs, coaches and Regional Associations to foster the
success of swim clubs as businesses and organisations.

Promote utilization of SQ and SAL swimming programs and services.

Carry the message about SQ and SAL priorities to coaches, clubs and Regional Associations.

In addition to regular visits to clubs, attend key swim meets and events that facilitate
communication, education and delivery of services.

Work as a member of the SQ team, and contribute to the creation and development of new
programs and services within SQ and SAL.

Make regular reports, promote program achievements, and maintain accurate club visit and
club resource data.
Key selection criteria

Extensive experience in coaching swimmers (minimum requirement of Silver Licence
accreditation) and a demonstrated commitment to the holistic, long-term development of the
swimmer

Demonstrated commitment to continually improving your coaching knowledge and skills

A practical understanding of swim clubs and long-term athlete development

A good understanding of the structure of swimming governance at all levels

Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and
groups, and to communicate effectively in front of an audience at coaching clinics and/or
swim clubs

Proven ability to organize and prioritise your workload and to achieve outcomes

A strong passion for the sport of swimming

Suitability to work with children, including possession of a Blue Card.
