Happy Spring Red Hawk Ridge Families! Spring is definitely in the air. With spring, comes testing season. We made it through the first round of PARCC! All of us at Red Hawk Ridge are so proud of all of the effort and hard work our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students put into the test. Because the test was new, we didn’t know what to expect but the kids did a great job! We have two more rounds of testing coming up so please encourage your children to continue to do their best. 4th and 5th Grades C Track CMAS Science and Social StudiesApril 13th- 15th 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades D Track PARCC ELA and Math- April 20th-22nd 4th and 4th Grades A, B, and D Tracks CMAS Science and Social Studies- April 27th-29th 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades A, B, and C Tracks PARCC ELA and Math- May 12th- 14th With this lovely warm weather, a lot of progress has been made on our field! Molly O'Brien 3rd Grade Teacher Red Hawk Ridge Elementary Reminders No dogs are allowed on school property. Please leave your dogs at home while bringing your child to and from school. The school day runs from 8:45-3:30. Children may come in for breakfast at 8:15. Students that do not eat breakfast at school may NOT be dropped off before 8:25 as we do not have adult supervision outside before that time. Children must be picked up after school by 3:40 as that is when outside adult supervision ends. Students that need to stay longer may enroll in the Before/After School program. For the safety of our kids, we appreciate your observance of these time frames. Please have your child exit and enter your vehicle on the curb side. This way, little ones will not have to walk between cars. Many of them are too short to be seen by drivers. If there are no openings next to the curb, we are asking that you park your car in a designated parking space and walk your child across the parking lot, or drive around the loop another time. The drop off lane usually clears up quickly. Please do not have your child exit or enter your car from the second lane of traffic. Please help us keep children safe by not dropping off students in the street. Cafeteria Account Information Students Leaving the Cherry Creek School District: Any student moving out of the Cherry Creek School District should request a refund from the kitchen manager at 720-886-3839. Students Transferring within the Cherry Creek School District: If students are planning to transfer to another school within the Cherry Creek School District, their meal account balance will be automatically transferred to the Cherry Creek School that they will attend next school year. Looking for menus, lunch account information, and online applications for free and reduced meals? Visit ccsdcafe.org . NEWS FROM THE CLINIC It is officially SPRING! We want our students to be energized, active, and full of excitement to be with their families outside. A few reminders of Spring safety: wear sunscreen (even on cloudy days) because the sun rays are even more powerful; wear helmets when riding bikes, skate boards, and/or roller blades. Wearing helmets prevent serious head/ brain injuries. Watch your kids around water ;it only take 3 inches for a young child to drown. April is Autism Awareness month. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has a web page called “Kid Quest” which allows kids to learn about children all over the world who have a disability. It is a great website which will help them connect and relate with our students who have disabilities at Red Hawk Ridge. This website also helps kids connect with other children with disabilities that might cross their path in the future. Kids are curious about a lot if things and we want to guide them with truthful facts about people who might be different than them. So check it out as a family, the website is: www.CDC.gov. Enter into the search menu “kids quest”, click on the first search it brings up, and it will direct you to that page. It is also Spring Cleaning time. The clinic is in desperate need of girls and boys clothes. Our biggest needs are pants and shoes of all sizes for both boys and girls. Winter clothes are always appreciated for our families who are having a hard time with our economy! Thank you for your time! What's been going on in STEM: Students in 1st-2nd are currently using the LEGO LearnToLearn Program. It is a series of building tasks designed for students to create unique solutions for real-world problems. Students have designed wheelchairs, bridges, towers, and experimented with mathematics problem-solving and game creation. 3rd-5th grade is completing a unit with Makey-Makeys. Makey-Makeys are invention kits that allow students to create keyboards from any conductive materials. This reinforces science units on electricity and magnetism and allows them to create a unique interface with programs students developed on Scratch (coding program from M.I.T.). 5th Graders are also printing out original-design key chains on the 3D printer that they created in 3Dtin, a 3D modeling software. All of these engaging devices and materials were made possible through our PTCO's generous donations over the past two years! Looking Forwards: How will this new money be spend? Mr. Remien is looking at purchasing some Bare Conductive Touch Boards and Sparkfun Digital Sandbox boards. Both are multi-sensor boards that are used to integrate technology and engineering.
