Dear Red Hawk Ridge Families, The spring is a busy time for an elementary school and as such I have several pieces of information for your family. • I want to congratulate Dan and Kelly Kuper on being selected as Red Hawk Ridge’s Volunteers of the Year. Dan and Kelly have been volunteering at Red Hawk for the past five years. You will frequently see them at school events helping with the Fall Carnival or the Snowball Dance. Kelly is the PTCO treasurer. They will be celebrated by the Cherry Creek School District on April 23 at the Exceptional Volunteer Dinner. • Speaking of volunteering … next week is officially Volunteer Appreciation week! I cannot say enough about the wonderful volunteers that make Red Hawk Ridge a better school. The dedication, caring and thoughtfulness of our volunteers is overwhelming. In honor of our volunteers we will be holding the Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast at 8:00 on April 30 in the library. We hope our volunteers will be able to make it to this celebration. • As I am typing this newsletter the construction crews are finishing up our new field. If you have not seen it lately, the field is looking phenomenal! I will never be able to thank the Parker Jordan Metropolitan District enough for this beautiful area. The students will be able to use the field for many years. • As my email on March 31 stated, Mrs. Whitaker and I will be at the PTCO meeting next week on April 21 at 6:00 pm to answer questions about Red Hawk Ridge going on “watch” next school year. Again, we will be on a four-track calendar next year but may be moving off the year-round calendar for the 2016-17 school year. Of course, you can call or email Mrs. Whitaker or me if you have any questions. • We have finalized necessary track changes for next year and are now opening the Track Change Request process. If you are interested in changing tracks for the 2015-16 school year the form is online at redhawkridge.cherrycreekschools.org. Unfortunately, both Second and Third Grade are closed to track change requests. If you are looking for a track change in First, Fourth and Fifth Grades, the sooner you turn in your form, the more likely you are to get your requested tracks. All forms are due May 1, 2015. Please know that if you are denied your track change request that there is a good chance we are moving back to a regular calendar the 2016-17 school year. If you have any questions, please call 720-886-3800. Molly O'Brien 3rd Grade Teacher Red Hawk Ridge Elementary Reminders No dogs are allowed on school property. Please leave your dogs at home while bringing your child to and from school. The school day runs from 8:45-3:30. Children may come in for breakfast at 8:15. Students that do not eat breakfast at school may NOT be dropped off before 8:25 as we do not have adult supervision outside before that time. Children must be picked up after school by 3:40 as that is when outside adult supervision ends. Students that need to stay longer may enroll in the Before/After School program. For the safety of our kids, we appreciate your observance of these time frames. Please have your child exit and enter your vehicle on the curb side. This way, little ones will not have to walk between cars. Many of them are too short to be seen by drivers. If there are no openings next to the curb, we are asking that you park your car in a designated parking space and walk your child across the parking lot, or drive around the loop another time. The drop off lane usually clears up quickly. Please do not have your child exit or enter your car from the second lane of traffic. Please help us keep children safe by not dropping off students in the street. Cafeteria Account Information Students Leaving the Cherry Creek School District: Any student moving out of the Cherry Creek School District should request a refund from the kitchen manager at 720-886-3839. Students Transferring within the Cherry Creek School District: If students are planning to transfer to another school within the Cherry Creek School District, their meal account balance will be automatically transferred to the Cherry Creek School that they will attend next school year. Looking for menus, lunch account information, and online applications for free and reduced meals? Visit ccsdcafe.org . NEWS FROM THE CLINIC It is officially SPRING! We want our students to be energized, active, and full of excitement to be with their families outside. A few reminders of Spring safety: wear sunscreen (even on cloudy days) because the sun rays are even more powerful; wear helmets when riding bikes, skate boards, and/or roller blades. Wearing helmets prevent serious head/ brain injuries. Watch your kids around water ;it only take 3 inches for a young child to drown. April is Autism Awareness month. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has a web page called “Kid Quest” which allows kids to learn about children all over the world who have a disability. It is a great website which will help them connect and relate with our students who have disabilities at Red Hawk Ridge. This website also helps kids connect with other children with disabilities that might cross their path in the future. Kids are curious about a lot if things and we want to guide them with truthful facts about people who might be different than them. So check it out as a family, the website is: www.CDC.gov. Enter into the search menu “kids quest”, click on the first search it brings up, and it will direct you to that page. It is also Spring Cleaning time. The clinic is in desperate need of girls and boys clothes. Our biggest needs are pants and shoes of all sizes for both boys and girls. Winter clothes are always appreciated for our families who are having a hard time with our economy! Thank you for your time!
