General Information
Who is a Joliet Park District Resident?
Did you know that not all City of Joliet
residents are Joliet Park District residents? Based on formal action by the Joliet Park District Board of
Commissioners, a Joliet Park District resident is described as a person whose legal domicile is within
the boundaries of the District. Residency is the principal place of habitation of the individual occupying
the home, apartment, condominium or estate. It shall be the principal yearly residence for the family
residing at the location. The resident must be able to produce a valid driver’s license and a current
property tax bill or utility bill verifying residency at that location. Individuals who own rental property that
is occupied by others may not be considered Joliet Park District residents. However, individuals who
reside in rental property within the Park District boundaries are considered Park District residents.
Who Needs a Resident Discount Card?
Resident Discount Cards are issued to Joliet
Park District residents only and are mandatory for all residents six years and older who wish to take
advantage of lower, resident rates for programs and services. If a parent is registering a child under the
age of six for a program, the parent must have a valid Resident Discount Card.
Where Do I Obtain a Resident Discount Card? Obtain your Resident Discount Card
at the Provena Saint Joseph Inwood Athletic Club, 3000 W. Jefferson St., the Multi-Purpose Center,
3000 W. Jefferson St., Hartman Recreation Center, 511 N. Collins St. or Splash Station Waterpark,
2780 U.S. Rte. 6. When obtaining/renewing your Resident Discount Card and/or the cards for your
family members, bring your Resident Discount Card (if applicable), (1) form of picture I.D. (in addition
to RDC), and a current property tax or utility bill showing your name and address.
Inclusion
The Joliet Park District supports the rights of people with special needs to participate in any
program. Any adult or child must adhere to the guidelines of that particular program. The Joliet Park
District believes that all members of the community are entitled to have equal leisure opportunities.
For information on the inclusion process, please contact Katie Dillon or Kathy Green with Special
Recreation of Joliet and Channahon (SRJC), at 815-741-7275 ext. 175 or 169. Any accommodations
and expectations will be discussed prior to the start of a program.

Director’s Message
It’s finally summer! That means it’s time for Splash Station Waterpark, summer camps, golf, and the
Taste of Joliet. I hope you make the Joliet Park District a big part of your plans.
Splash Station opens for the season on June 1st. Can you believe we are heading into our 12th
season? We’re proud to say we’ve served over 600,000 visitors since opening day 2002. And we’re
excited to offer season passes for the same low price as 2012 — individual passes are $50 and a
family of four costs only $119! For more information on Splash Station, visit page 31-34.
The mission of the Joliet Park District is to provide quality recreational programming and events that promote healthy,
active lifestyles to enhance the quality of life for our entire community. Make sure you’re around for the fun this

Age Limits and Why
In order to provide your child
with the best possible recreational
and learning experience, all of our
programs are planned according
to the ages listed in our brochure.
Our instructors are sensitive to
the needs of the individual age
levels. Children must be the age
listed in the brochure for each
program by the date the program
begins, unless otherwise
specified. Birth certificates may
be requested at any time by
instructors to verify age.

After School Enrichment Programs
Early Learning
We also extended our program to include prekindergarten – 4th grade students in our After School
Enrichment program. Students from Troy schools are
transported from their home schools to the Joliet Park
District after their school day.
The Sunshine and Rainbows Learning Center is an extension
of early learners of the Joliet Park District. The preschool
program has been in existence for over 30 years and started
as a one classroom play program in the old Inwood
Recreation building above the swimming locker rooms.
Today the Learning Center has openings for students in 12
different classrooms that attend either a 2-day, 3-day or 5day program in the morning, afternoon, or evening in the
Multi-Purpose Building.
Flying Solo Learning Program
Welcome to the Sunshine and
Rainbows Learning Center!
The Early Childhood Classroom
The Sunshine and Rainbows Learning Center follows
the Illinois Early Childhood Standards and Benchmarks.
We teach children holistically and as individuals in a caring
environment. In the classroom many different opportunities
for learning are provided using center based exploration,
sensory tubs, developmentally appropriate literacy and math
lessons, props, and manipulatives.
In addition each classroom has physical education and music
instruction. Our Learning Center uses the “Handwriting
Without Tears” method for teaching pre-writing and printing
skills. Computer time is also available that helps reinforce
colors, shapes, patterns, and letter recognition through the
use of the mouse and keyboard.
Family Involvement & Community Events
We also include the family in many events. We have music
presentations in Fall, Winter and in February. Both the 3’s and
4’s, according to the Early Learning Standards, are involved
with Kris Kringle, Science Fair, Family Picnic, Grandparents
For the child who misses the September 1st birth date
deadline for entering Illinois Elementary schools, we
offer the Flying Solo Learning program that allows
children, who turn 3 years old after September 1st, and
are ready to begin a preschool program, to attend an
extended program available during the day and evening
hours. We also have available Meeting the Challenge, an
opportunity for children to attend a preschool program
for 1 day only and in a mixed age group setting.
Summer Learning
The learning does not stop in May! We offer the
following enrichment learning opportunities for
preschoolers, K - 3rd grade:
• Camp Starfish
• Fabulous Fridays
• Summer Puddle Jumpers
• Kinder Camp (PK-1)
• Summer Plus One (1st-3rd)

Pilcher Park Nature Center • 2501 Highland Park Dr.
Our Little Sprouts program is dedicated to bringing children and nature together.
We will offer the experiences typically found in child-centered learning centers;
however, what is special about Little Sprouts is that these experiences will be
focused through daily interaction with nature, animals and plant life. Research has
found that children who spend more time in nature pay attention better, think more
clearly, and are able to cope more effectively with stress. The nature curriculum is
based on seasonal changes. Topics reflect current events in the natural world and
provide the basis for daily outdoor discovery plus:
• Creative arts
• Natural science exploration
• Construction play
• Large & small motor skill development
• Math & manipulative activities
• Language experiences
Little Sprouts is more appropriate for children whose families are looking for
discovery-based learning rather than traditional lessons that are scheduled and
confined by curriculum objectives. Natural themes and materials are incorporated
throughout indoor and outdoor activities.
“Children who do not experience nature won’t grow up to cherish or protect it.”

Tumble Bees Early Childhood Movement
Enrolling your child in our Tumble Bees Early
Childhood Movement program is a wonderful way
to expose participants to balance and movement
activities. Your child will learn movement skills,
coordination, and self-confidence in a positive
atmosphere. Our staff has years of experience with
children. Each week Tumble Bees will practice skills
and learn new progressions in creative formats that
keep learning fun. To assist in creating a positive
instructional environment, classes have a three-week policy in which, if your
child is not enrolled in the proper class, he or she will be placed in the
appropriate class. Children should enroll in classes based on the age they will
be when the session starts.
The Joliet Park District has an observation area available for the Gymnastics
and Tumbling programs. Please be respectful to all classes going on when in the
observation area.
Tumble Bees Tumbling Attire: Appropriate attire includes leotards,
shorts, sweats, t-shirts and non-skid socks or bare feet. Please do not wear
jeans, belts or jewelry.
Children’s Nursery: Only parent/guardian and participant are
allowed in classes. Please utilize the children’s nursery for all other siblings.
A children’s nursery is available at the Provena Saint Joseph Inwood Athletic
Club, located adjacent to the Multi-Purpose Center. Rates are reasonable and the
care is exceptional. Call 741-7275, ext. 122 for details.
Joliet Park District Program Philosophy:
Every participant can have fun learning developmentally appropriate movement
in a safe environment that promotes positive self-esteem.
A Gentle Reminder: Your promptness in picking up your child after class is
greatly appreciated. A few minutes without mom or dad after everyone else has left
can be frightening to small children. Thank you for not parking in the fire lanes.
Wear your
Tumble Bees t-shirt
to class each week!

Dance Class Descriptions:
Parent/Tot: Parent/tot classes are designed for parents to help guide their child through stretching, obstacle
courses, props, games and musical dances. Parents will follow instructions given by the instructor. Our goal for this
class is to develop friendships, confidence, balance, following directions and structured learning. We want your child to
feel confident enough to become independent so she/he can continue to move on to our other dance/tumbling classes.
Pre-Dance: Classes are especially designed for the 3 and 4 year olds, including an introduction to music, dance, rhythm, coordination, and
creative movement. Each class is 45 minutes and combines ballet/tap or ballet/tumbling. The basic principles of body and spatial awareness,
coordination, rhythm and an overall feel for music are developed while incorporating the fundamentals of dance. These fundamentals are
introduced and developed throughout the course in a playful and non-competitive environment. Leotard, tights, and leather or canvas ballet shoes
are required.
Ballet/Tumbling or Ballet/Tap:
Classical ballet training for students 5 years of age and older or instructor approval. The
grace of ballet and flexibility of tumbling come together in these energetic classes. Basic tumbling and ballet skills will be taught in a fun and
interactive environment. Each level of instruction is offered with ballet/tap technique, music, rhythm and tap routines. Leotard, tights, and leather
or canvas ballet shoes are required.
Hip-Hop/Jazz: Have fun creating new dances in this innovative class for the beginner that emphasizes flexibility and balance using
current music. It improves coordination and helps build confidence while teaching rhyme and modern music appreciation. Comfortable clothing
and gym shoes required for attire.
