SUMMER 2015 NEWSLETTER AEAEAEAEAEAEAEB
ello and Welcome to the Summer 2015 edition of the Paul Green Rock Academy Newsletter. Below you
will find a whole lot of information that will help maximize your educational experience at and enjoyment of PGRA. Please read this over carefully and share the relevant information with your child..
e have just wrapped up our 7th season of shows, and this season continued the trend of our students
rising to the occasion and exceeding even our lofty expectations. Our students took on the always
perilous challenge of playing the music of Jimi Hendrix and did so very successfully; they dressed
in feathers and heels and put on a Glam show that would have made Marc Bolan himself grin; they had the
priceless opportunity to do a show, WEEN, directed by the lead singer of WEEN, and did him and the music
proud; they got everyone dancing at the 70’s disco prom and more parents showed up dressed and ready to
dance than I had even dared to hope for; and finally they took on the most challenging of metal material and
rocked the faces off a giant mixed audience of grandmoms and metal heads at our tribute to Metallica.
None of this would be possible without the continued support of our parents, so to you all I would once again
like to say a most heartfelt and enthusiasticTHANK YOU.We take the musical (and life) education of your
children very seriously and understand the great honor that you have given us by entrusting us with this task.
N
ext up we wrap the whole thing up in a big bow with the BEST OF SEASON show, May 30th, at the
Bearsville Theatre. This is an extremely important event for us…one third wrap party, one third scholarship fundraiser, one third celebration of what we do best: get kids to play music at a level they didn’t
know they were capable of. An email will be going out shortly with specific details the kids need to know, but
in the meantime I would like to ask everyone reading this to come to the show, invite all their friends, and
bid on an item or two so that when the next kid who walks in that door and wants to learn to rock asks for a
scholarship, it is easy for us to say yes.
S
ign up sheets are currently up for our SUMMER SEASON of shows and show assignments will be made
soon…so if you have not done so yet, please come in and sign up ASAP or at least send us an email with
the requested information.
VERY IMPORTANT: even though we are currently between seasons, you should definitely still be coming to your
lessons. This is the time of year when our teachers can work with you on the fundamentals of music without the
pressure of impending shows
We are offering our best ever slate of SUMMER INTENSIVE camps this year and it is highly recommended that
all of our students take advantage of at least one of these amazing opportunities. I have seen first hand the incredible musical growth that can result from an immerse week of work with an amazing musician….in fact a bunch of the
showband kids really began to blossom after one of these camps.

S
peaking of Showband…please join us for two amazing events:
First, on July 10th we will be joined by Metal legends Brendon
Small and Scott Ian for a production of The Doomstar Requiem
to be held at Back Stage Productions in Kingston. Second, we will
be finishing up our first ever Showband tour August 1st with a very
special homecoming concert at the Paul Green Rock academy as part
of the first ever ROCK ACADEMY DAY. Food. Games. Rock. Save the
dates!
S
peaking again of Showband: this is the time of year when we start
identifying new Showband potentials. As a reminder: Showband
is the advanced program withing PGRA for students who want to
get really good at music really fast and have demonstrated an ability to learn material quickly. If your child has an interest in joining
Showband, please schedule a sitdown with me ASAP and we can talk
about that.
I
f you know a child who wants to join and/or would benefit from the
services provided by The Paul Green Rock Academy please let them
know that now is the best time to join as they can get a month or so
of fundamental/theory lessons in before the next season begins. We
are very close to being completely full (in fact, there is now a waiting
list for drum lessons)so please have them or their parents contact
info@rockacademy.com as soon as possible to ensure a spot.
W
e are so excited to see the jam room getting used more and
more. For all new students, you can reserve the jam room
almost any time as part of your tuition. All you have to do is
sign up for a time (no more than 2 hours and no more than 2 weeks in
a row) on the board in the lobby.
I
t is once again time for the
Battle of the Bands!
We are beyond impressed
at the effort the students have
been putting into their original
music. Each Battle gets better and better and very soon,
no doubt, we will be seeing full
blown compositions with backing vocals, harmonies, bridges
and so forth. Remember, this
competition is about rehearsal
and hard work. So if you have a
band already, get to work writing
and rehearsing now. We LOVE
to see the Jam Room schedule
full.
Watch your inbox for the email
announcing the date the sign-up
sheets go up. It will be any day
now. The last sign-up sheet was
full almost as soon as it went out.
We will be back at the Dutch
Church on the green in the center of Woodstock on Friday, July
17th.
F
inally: our Adult program is right in the middle of our 4th term and sounding (way) better than ever. Please
join us to help cheer them on June 11th and/or 12th at Bearsville Theatre and if you have been on the fence
about signing up it is only because you are chicken. Don’t be chicken…ask Steve Casa how much fun it is.
The new term will start in Mid September with shows in Mid November, but get your name on the list now
because space is indeed limited.
