He asked Lion Anna to say the blessing and Lion Cindy led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Lion Jim turned the program over to Lion Tim for his tail twister duties. We were able to answer almost all of Tim's questions today. Thank you Lion Anna for having candy in heart shaped boxes for all. Lion Jim read an email that he received from South Carolina Lions Charitable Services regarding a $100,000 grant that they received from Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina. This will allow for 50 more eye surgeries in this Lion's year. This year the South Carolina Lions Charitable Services and South Carolina Lions Foundation Board meetings will be held on April 25, 2014 at the Doubletree Hotel. Lion Jim read an email from Lion Hope McBride from the Tega Cay Lions Club offering to speak to the Rock Hill Lions Club about the Spot cameras that are being use to test children. Lion Jim represented the Rock Hill Lions Club, and joined with the Tega Cay Lions Club, the Fort Mill Lions Club and the River Hills Lions Club to test 270 children (3 - 5 years old) at the Head Start School in Rock Hill. Approximately 11% of the children tested were found to have eye problems. The Spot camera identifies problems that should be looked at further by an eye doctor. The Rock Hill Lions Club can then offer assistance to those children who cannot afford eye glasses or exams. Lion President Jim sent out approximately 20 letters to organizations in the community to assess the needs in our community. To date he has received three responses from The Worthy Boys Club, Senior Center and Youth Services. A discussion was held regarding not holding our fundraiser pancake breakfast at Fatz this year. A motion was made by Lion Anna and seconded by Lion Tim to pass on having the breakfast this year. All voted in the affirmative. The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 pm. Respectively submitted, Lion Cynthia Bottomley ********************** Rock Hill Lions Club February 26, 2015 PRESENT: Lions Anna and Jim McKown Lions Cindy and Gary Bottomley Lion Kathleen Palidoro Lion Tim Hyatt Lion Hope MacBride, Tega Cay Lions Club Our meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by Lion President Jim. He asked Lion Anna to give the invocation to give thanks for our meal. Then Lion Cindy led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to our Fag. Lion Jim turned the program over to Lion Tim for his tail twister duties. We all then enjoyed our meal. Lion President Jim received an email from Lions Club International which was from a resident in Rock Hill who claims that he has not been able to get assistance for eye glasses. We had not heard from this gentleman before this email. He will be sent an Aid Application. Lion Hope MacBride from the Tega Cay Lions Club and is the Spot Camera Program Coordinator for our District. Lions Clubs have partnered with Lions KidsSight USA, Community Eye Screening for Children. The first few years of a child's life are critical to the development of normal vision. Vision abnormalities in a child's eyes may occur even when the eye appears to look normal. A child with vision problems often does not realize that the way they see the world is not the way everyone else sees it. Lions use the Welch Allyn screening device (similar in appearance to a digital camera) to identify children whose eyes may have some type of defect, which if left untreated, may lead to a lifetime of vision problems or blindness. Lion Hope gave us some details of the screening that has been done for children in Tega Cay, Fort Mill and Rock Hill. The Lions Club would like to have an opportunity to screen all the children in the local schools and a more ambitious program to screen the children in the Head Start school state wide. More information is available on the following website: Lions KidSight USA: http://edistrict.org/sites/kidsightusa/ Lion Jim distributed Fall/Winter 20142015 Storm Eye Institute, MUSC Medical University of South Carolina booklets. This year was one of the biggest years in terms of South Carolina Lions Support, with over $150,000 donated from individual Lions and clubs. Because of continued support from the Lions, Storm Eye is conducting some of its most significant research to date, exploring new treatment options that could possibly cure blindness. They gave a big THAT YOU TO SOUTH CAROLINA LIONS! The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm. Respectfully submitted, Cynthia Bottomley *********************** MD32 Welcomes International President Joe Preston to Our 91st South Carolina Lions State Convention Myrtle Beach will be the host site for the 2015 State Convention and we are honored to have International President Joe Preston as our guest and keynote speaker for this exciting weekend.
