What Is The Time? By 1/2U

Dear families and friends,
Next week is Education Week where we celebrate all the
teaching and learning that takes place in schools across
Victoria. It is a chance to celebrate the huge part that
schools play in the lives of our children. Six hours a day,
five days a week, forty weeks of every year for thirteen
(plus) years, we are at school learning. Not only
academic learning, but social, emotional and physical
learning too. Our dedicated teachers support, challenge,
nurture, facilitate and teach every day. We hope that
you will come along to get involved in our learning next
Wednesday afternoon between 2:30 and 3:30.
There are also many free activities to celebrate
Education Week going on around Melbourne, starting on
the weekend. Please check out the DET website for more
information www.education.vic.gov.au .
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
This week the teachers and some of our classes had a
wonderful time working with Michael Ymer (Mathematics
Education Consultant). It was fantastic timing for us, as
Maths is the state focus for Education Week next week.
Michael taught three classes during the day and the
teachers were the observers and learners. He challenged
us to gather our own data, work together to solve
problems and work with multiple maths ideas and skills,
all in one session. The teachers will now work in their
teams to take their learning and embed it into maths
teaching practices at Rosanna.
NAPLAN
Congratulations to all our year three and five students
who participated in NAPLAN this week. They showed
excellent persistence as they stuck at the tasks and did
their very best. Some of them even said it was fun!
Thanks to everyone at school for their flexibility with
timetabling and space allocation as it allowed our
students to have the best possible conditions to
complete the assessments. Results will be forwarded to
the school in term three and we will let parents know
when they are available.
SCHOOL SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS
Congratulations to Cassie Long who made it through to
the Northern Metropolitan regional trials for netball on
Monday. Cassie played excellently and just missed out
on moving through to the next level. Also, next Friday
we wish Zoe Allen well at the State Schools Victoria,
Tennis State Finals. Both girls are fantastic
representatives of both their sports, and Rosanna
Primary School. Fantastic effort!
SAFETY
We have recently had some safety issues in the school
car park with parents and students walking through.
This is not a pedestrian area. Please ensure that you use
the pedestrian gates and not the car park entry. Also,
the car park is reserved for school staff and official
visitors only. School staff come and go throughout the
day and it is essential that there are spaces available on
their return. The car park is not available to parents,
particularly at drop off and pick up times. Thank you for
your consideration.
PREP ENROLMENTS
Enrolments are rolling in for prep in 2016. Please
complete your enrolment forms and forward them to the
school office as soon as possible. It is especially
important to know enrolments of siblings of current
students to assist us with plans for 2016.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Working Bee
Saturday 30th May is shaping into a big day. Please let the
office know if you can share in making sure our school is
kept in great condition. We'll be gathering in the staff
meeting room at 1:00pm for an overview of our 'things to
do list'. Our gutters and drains are filling up and need a
good clean and mulch needs to be spread from our top
playground across our gardens. We also need to move
some stored bits and pieces from underneath the building.
It would be great if participants could bring a shovels,
wheelbarrows, gloves, sturdy shoes and a protective hat.

A final reminder note has gone home to parents who have
not yet returned these important consent forms.
Book of the Year is a major literacy event at RPS and, as
such, the decision has been made not to participate as a
school in the 2015 Premier’s Reading Challenge. We
feel that by also making the Premier’s Reading
Challenge a biennial event (alternating with Book of the
Year), we will be able to better focus our resources and
efforts to make both of these events exciting, interesting
and meaningful to student learning.
We encourage students, with the support of their
families, to participate in the 2015 Premier’s Reading
Challenge as home-based readers.

NEWS
This week we are playing against Viewbank Primary,
an away game. So everyone needs to bring $7 for the
bus!
Netball will be played at Viewbank Primary.
Soccer will be played at Viewbank Primary.
Football will be on the Beverley Road Oval.
All children not involved in a sporting team will
participate in a sporting program at Macleod College. No
money is required for this program.

Canteen News
This weeks grade six helpers are Charlie
Turvey and Sam Madrigale, thank you boys
for all your terrific assistance. Many
thanks also to the fantastic team of parent
helpers.
Next week on Wednesday, 20th May, the
canteen will be hosting the Crazy Cookie
morning tea. All forms with payment were
due back on Tuesday. Please do not send any
late forms as all ordering has been
completed. Many thanks to all the families
who have participated.
Well the cold weather has certainly sprung
upon us rapidly! The canteen has plenty of
warming items available over the counter or
as a lunch order. Hot cup-a-soup in chicken
noodle or tomato, hot buttered raisin toast
or toast with Vegemite, and hot milo's are
all available over the counter. Hot pastas,
hot noodles and various hot pastries are
available in a lunch order to keep the
chill at bay. Please note: due to health
and safety regulations, the canteen is
unable to reheat food that is brought from
home.

FORPS NEWS
FAIR NEWS - preparation for our
school fair are well underway and this is where we
call upon our entire school community to pull
together to make this our most successful fair ever!
NEXT MEETING - Wednesday 20th May, 7pm everyone welcome!
Donations are needed for our giant raffle and
auction, so if you have any contacts, please see if
you are able to obtain any prizes that can be used.
Donations are also needed for entertainment (if
you're a talented parent we'd love to hear from
you!) and equipment (i.e. trestle tables, chairs,
marquees), so again if anyone has these or has
contacts that we can use please let anyone of the
fair coordinators below know.

Photo Day
Last Thursday we had our school photo day. Due to
weather being a bit dodgy, photos were taken inside
Chandler Hall. The day ran very smoothly thanks to
the following mums who helped make sure our kids
were looking their best:

Mother's Day Stall
Thankyou to all students and their families for
supporting our Mother's Day Stall last Friday. It was a
great success raising a total of $720.00. A special
thankyou to the following lovely ladies who helped
out with the set up and the stall on the day:

FORPS PARENT CLASS REPS
What does it involve??
This year we would like to trial FORPS PARENT CLASS REPS.
These volunteers will be the point of contact for all parents
within a class group and will be a liaison between FORPS and
the parents.
They will be responsible for organizing any social events for the
parents within the class or liaising between the year level(s) to
involve the broader school community.
These can be coffee dates, play dates, parent dinners and be
the point of contact for volunteers for any FORPS events that
require parent help.
If you would like to be the FORPS champion for your child’s

Before School/After School Care Program
Rosanna OSHClub update!
It was one of our busiest weeks since the program has begun.
We managed to have over 30 children at aftercare twice that
week. This is exciting, and demonstrates the support we’re
getting from the Rosanna P.S community, and that the children
are enjoying the program. We would like to thank RPS
community for your continued support.
Last week, we had a fun week, with heaps of Mother’s Day
activities, such as making cards, bathing salts, cookies,
Mother’s Day Bouquets and I love my mum flowers cards.
Children also participated in a variety of planned and chosen
games, such as Soccer, Ball tiggy, Charades, Dodge ball,
Treasures and Prisons and Dog and Bone.
PARENT REMINDERS:
BOOKINGS ON THE DAY:
If you’re going to book your children at After School and Before
School care on the day you’re making the booking, you will not
be able to book online. In this case, you will need to call
during our operating hours or leave a message on our mobile
phone. As our numbers are increasing, it would be of great
assistance if you can contact us in the morning at before hours
care as we may need to arrange staffing for the service.
However, we continue to encourage parents to book online,
and to do so 24 hours in advance. If you’re having any
difficulties in making bookings, cancelling or opening an
account online, please contact our customer service team on
(03) 8564 9000 between 9am – 5pm.
LOST PROPERTY:
Please ensure your children have their belongings clearly
labelled with their names, so we can ensure they can be
returned. If they don’t have a name, they are taken to the
schools lost property area. Could parents and children, please
ensure you check if you have all your belongings’ before you
leave the service. We wish to thank you in advance for your
cooperation.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea:
This will take place on Wednesday 3rd June at Before and
After School Care. Parents, family members, siblings and
friends are all invited to participate. There will be a
special afternoon tea at ASC and special breakfast at BSC.
If your child or family member wishes to participate, a
gold coin donation is required. Advertising this event will
be given to OSHCLUB students at the beginning of next
week. Please come along, and have fun with us, and see
what your children do at the service!

Dear Parents and Families:
Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills children learn, it is the one you can

is important.
Time is important so we can get to school on time. (Elise)
Time is important because if we didn’t have time we wouldn’t know when it is time to
