Trust Him, He is REAL!" These are the words of wisdom given by one of St. Charles' newest priests, Fr. Ryan Mann. Why did Father Ryan decide to become a priest? "Well, I did not grow up in a very Catholic or religious home. However, my grandparents were very inspiring people and loved Jesus and the Church. But it wasn't until I was 19 that I first considered priesthood and it was due to Father Damian Ference asking me if I wanted to be a priest. I show. Around twenty kindergarten through eighth grade students learn about art and how to draw. The presenter and teacher was once a graphic artist for American Greetings. “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” Joseph Addison (17th century English writer) Rembrandt was a great painter from the Netherlands who lived in the seventeen century. Congrats to the top readers, and good job to everyone that reached their goal. Keep reading and getting those points! By Alana Gassman Friends of El Salvador Many people in El Salvador are very poor. It is exceptionally difficult for people/parents to earn enough money to support their families. The people in El Salvador need clothing and food. For the kids in El Salvador, their gym uniform is their protection. If they do not wear their gym uniform while outside, gangs will try to get them to join their gang. Many kids only have one school uniform to last the whole year. They have to wash their clothes in a river, which isn't very sanitary. They also only have one pair of shoes to last the whole year. Students at SAINT CHARLES BORROMEO SCHOOL Saint Charles received a bag to put any loose change to donate to El Salvador. Please help raise money for the children in El Salvador. Every penny counts! By: Annaleise Lozada PAGE 3 St. Baldrick’s Head Shaving Event “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what On Friday, March 13, Saint Charles participated in the St.Baldrick's head shaving event. We raised almost $25,000 for the fight against cancer. There were many important people participating this year, including Father Terry, Father Ed, Parma councilman Mark Casselberry, and Anthony's brother, Nick Kashi. Also, girls, this wasn’t just for the guys! There were several brave females who shaved off their locks: Amelia Greiner, Emily Jung, Meghan Gaughan, Mrs. Updegrove, and this reporter. Mrs. Kwiatkowski wasn’t planning on it, but in the heat of the moment she challenged the crowd to raise $500 and she, too, would shave her head. Well, the audience responded, raising almost $1,500 in fifteen minutes! Tears of joy ran down her face as her head was shaved. You can be a part of this great cause, too. You can be brave and shave or just donate at www.saintbaldricks. org/events/ saintcharles. Everyone participating in this event did a great thing for kids with cancer-from shaving, to donating, to being a barber. See you again next year? Colleen Doucette we give.” ― Winston S. Churchill Robotics Club The Robotics Club is a club for interested 7th and 8th graders who want to learn all about programming and robotic design. They meet every other Wednesday for one hour. Right now, they are learning about how to program a robot to follow lines on paper, how to stop at obstacles and how to respond to sound. They are also learning how to fix a problem if one ever happens. Learning how to program and fix problems in the robot will be an important skill as you enter into high school, because it teaches you how to think logically and how to break problems into steps. Any interested 6th and 7th graders are able to join next year, and can talk to Mr. McKay about any questions they may have.
